RIM announced a number of changes and updates to its development tools for BlackBerries. The tools support now Gears, which will let web applications run as standalone apps on BlackBerries. RIM is also providing a new plug-in for developers who use the Eclipse Java tools. Together, these will allow for more desktop-like applications to run on the BlackBerry OS. The new tools and support for Gears will be available in 2009.
