Qualcomm announced a new Bluetooth chip for mobile phones that is smaller and more power efficient than previous designs. The system-on-a-chip supports Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and also improves radio performance. The chip is intended for use in low- to mid-range phones that are small in size, and should allow manufacturers to add Bluetooth features without boosting the price of the handset too much. The chip is already sampling and should be integrated into phones before the end of the year.
