The CTIA has sided with Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile, and is pushing for the unlicensed white spaces spectrum to become licensed and distributed only to paying entities. Right now, white spaces are the spectrum that exists between broadcast TV channels and is unlicensed. Some companies, including Google, wish to use that unlicensed spectrum for high-speed wireless broadband. The FCC is still testing white space spectrum to see if using it will interfere with TV signals.

Big surprise (not)

That's a big surprise huh? 🙄 CTIA are funded to support the cellular industry who are of course scared that such white space spectrum could be used for free by consumers. I hope the FCC is smart and allows white space to be used unlicensed because that create a fantastic new industry that will bring much-needed competition.
