The MMC Association today finalized the specifications for their new ultracompact removable memory card. Meant to take on microSD (TransFlash) for use in small mobile devices like cellphones, MMCmicro is slightly larger than microSD, however it is faster. MMCmicro is capable of transfer speeds of 26 MB/sec and can be made in sizes as large as 1 GB using current technology. The cards are already in production by Samsung, which proposed the standard, and should be available from them as well as other MMCA members by the end of this year.
