Corning to Debut Third-Gen Gorilla Glass Next Week

Corning today announced that it will demonstrate the strength of its third-generation Gorilla Glass at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week. Corning calls Gorilla Glass 3 "a new glass composition with durability enhancements" compared to previous versions. Gorilla Glass is routinely used by smartphone makers to protect the displays of their devices. Corning did not reveal all the features of Gorilla Glass 3.

I wonder how durable gorilla glass 3 will be. Given that gorrilla glass 2 has proven to be very durable, This glass might do away with the need to have a screen protector at all, or make it even more finger print proof. At least, this is from my experience, with my Nokia 920. I have much less issues with finger prints and oily smudges on my screen, than I did with my old Samsung Focus, which had a plastic screen.

I haven't dropped my Nokia, so I can't really comment on how sturdy it is. I'm still waiting on my Otterbox case, but I hope I don't drop it before I get it.
