AT&T Wireless Suspends Contract-Cencellation Fee

AT&T Wireless is offering the option for subscribers to back out of their contracts without paying the $175 cancellation fee if they halt services by the end of July. The carrier plans to raise two minor wireless-related service rates, (such as a 26-cent increase in directory-assistance charges,) and says that it is giving users the chance to leave their contracts if they don't want to pay the new prices. The new prices essentially follow the lead of other carriers. However, allowing users to cancel contracts without penalty is highly unusual.
