Re: Oh My God!!!! Unlocked??
Why should they subsidize the cost of the phone you just plan on taking to another carrier then? The whole reason is to protect the investment they have in the device and get some profitability out of it. You can blame them for that. Business is business after all for anyone. I've had no problems getting the codes myself from them after I've completed my required term.
Re: Waste of money
Ooo, I spelled a word incorrectly while typing quickly, shoot. But "then" is correct in the context Mr. Grammer.
Main Entry: 1then
Pronunciation: \ˈthen\
Function: adverb
Etymology: Middle English than, then then, than, from Old English thonne, thænne; akin to Old High German denne then, than, Old English thæt that
Date: before 12th century
1 : at that time
2 a : soon after that : next in order of time b : following next after in order of position, narration, or ...
Waste of money
It took this long for Verizon to come out with this. What a waste...$60 domestic plan, that's typical, no big deal there but then you have to pay for the device yet? Why not just get an AT&T aircard then which is free, same price for domestic data and since they've had roaming agreements with carriers overseas for years, the roaming rates are much better then Verizon would have just aqquired I'm sure.
Re: Whatever, AT&T
Consumer reports is such a joke in regards to wireless services. They take such a small sampling of the overall picture. Take a look at the details on the study. Do you really think Consumer reports can cover every carrier in every part of the country? And they aren't exactly the industry leader in reporting wireless concerns.
Re: You still pay too much...
Sure they do. They also offer 0 year committment. It a comes down to how much you want to front for the device upfront.
Re: will it have gps built in too.
It has GPS capabilities, but not a built-in receiver. To use the GPS, you will need the GPS dongle. It's basically a cross between the Pearl and 8800 with a few minor upgrades. But since it's a combo, some things are kept and some things left off, like the built in GPS...left off. I agree though that with GPS and 3G, this thing would have been near perfect.
Re: VERY VERY poor reporting
I usually read the articles too, not just the headlines.
Re: It's a good idea, if it's very specifically drawn out...
Of course, you can see who makes them right on this website. Not only that, but if you look right in the manual who provides the warranty service, for example the 8525, it says specifically HTC.
Re: VERY VERY poor reporting
Well, in defense of the author, it does state very specifically in the article that it DID pass the House, just waiting on the Senate.

I know that each and every cell phone carrier in the U.S. (Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile,. . .) all specifically request manufacturers to make a phone specific for their network.
So, if any "idiot" customer were to purchase a phone from a store or from a carriers web site or, by chance, to notice the logo that happens to be printed on the thing then the phone they bought was contractually made with specific features for the specific carrier.
So, ...

A couple of points I must be missing.
2.) If you sell a product and Brand it with YOUR company name, how is the customer supposed to know who made it?
3.) If the Service company contracts with manufactures for product, exclusively sells these products, and rely on the product for business success. Why are they not responsible for the Quality of Product?

Can you blame Nokia for holding back after the severe burns that it got for trying to market the N75 through Cingular?
honzik, obviously you were not aware of the new Nokia HSDPA smartphone that is coming to Cingular this year. All carriers negotiate with each manufacturer and sometimes they pick up a device, and sometimes ...
Re: Dangerous!!!
Exactly!
Re: Dangerous!!!
Just as dangerous if you lose your actual credit card. First people would have to know you phone is your card to use it if you lost it, then, even if they did, you still would have every right to contest charges with your credit card company, the same as you do now.

Your choice, it's a democracy we live in
Re: Cingular = fake PTT
Maybe you should use it before posting comments. I used to have Nextel which was junk in comparision. My employees love the Cingular push to talk as do I. It is so convenient for everyone, especially the feature that allows me to see who is busy and who isn't, and for them to see my status. Check it up before complaining.

Well anything to get the potential ARPU up, but yeah, who actually benefits from PTT except very few businesses?
Answer: Nobody.
The only people that really USE PTT are people who NEED it in every day life (construction, building, security, police, fire, etc...).
If you're going to use this on a per minute basis, chances are VERY good you don't need it at all.
Dumb.
For small businesses like mine, it is extremely helpful. We don't use PTT for normal ...

just another way to screw people out of their money by hitting a button and it actually doing something when they expect it not to...
Well, as the article mentioned, you would have to go to a store or contact Cingular to have it added so if you push the button to use it, you added it yourself so you are at fault.
Re: Speeds ONLY advertised @ 400-700kbps
Option GT Max 3.6 card, it was $49.99. Video streaming was great with no stuttering or buffering. Very smooth. Downloads are consistantly fast and smooth. Well worth it since Cingular is planning on upping the speed this year.
Re: Speeds ONLY advertised @ 400-700kbps
I do have one of these cards and in Chicago and now Milwaukee, find consistant, average speeds generally around 1 mbps at this time.
Re: Phone faster then network?
So many chronic complainers....people complain that a network is faster but have limited devices for it, and then you have these people who complain because the devices are coming out but the network isn't turned up to that speed yet. Complain complain, I say get a life.....if you want it, buy it, if you don't shut up.

If Cingular starts advertising 3.6mbps air cards, I'll jump on it, but I'm not interested in this theoretical crap, only average speeds, and REAL WORLD speeds!!!!

Jay, you should do a little more research:
http://www.cingular.com/cell-phone -service/cell-phone-details/?q_list=true&q_ph oneName=Option+GT+Max+3.6&q_sku=sku530003
The cards are available and true, the network is not turned up to 3.6 yet but will be soon as Cingular has several new devices hitting the market this year that are HSDPA 3.6.

Re: largest cities?
Twin cities are slated for Q12007, towers are in place and they are in testing phases in that market
Re: 160? I only count 137..
Not all cities covered are on this list by any means if you really do some actual research into this.

Milwaukee/Madison are slated for Q12007. Most of the towers are already in place. Everything is in the final testing phase for these areas.

my apologies for typing fast in my last post, I meant "do" include wifi and STILL purchase "data". :o

Cingular doesn't see wifi as a threat - why sell the 8125, 8525, SX66, and iPaq6925 if they did?
Very true, and if anyone really did their research they would find that 97% of the people that purchase devices that due include the wifi, STILL purcahse date plans for their devices. When people purchase date centric devices, they purchase data rate plans as well, wifi or not.

Actualy radioshacker, Cingular had already partnered with youtube about 2 months ago for similar services. Verizon is basically a day late, and a dollar short on this deal.

November
Re: (sigh)
You guys gotta read the info...Cingular isn't launching their own service, just the phones and partnering with services. The other service will likely set the price of the songs.
Re: A Cingular Annoucement???
"I wonder when Cingular is EVER going to further they're 3G services and start offering navigation services, like Verizon has for a thousand frinkin yrs now, though I do like this MusicID service a lot!!!"
Cingular does offer navigation services, called Telenav which is actually better and cheaper then Verizon's VZ Navigator. It's also super easy to use, very cool stuff.
