if you get mobile web alone, it uses air time, if you get vcast, it includes mobile web and doesnt count towards ur minutes, so basically you can stay logged on all day to your messengers which is pretty hot

yea you can get it at the verizon website with $100 taken off upfront, plus you dont have to pay them a stupid $20 processing fee as you would in a store when buying the phone.

Can you help me out, I am having trouble converting the dvd's into 3gp. i downloaded IMToo and it worked fine when I converted some short avi clips I had in my computer, but how do i go about converting movies from dvd's. I burned 30 min of jay leno onto a dvd-r from my recorder in the living room. What exactly are the steps I have to do to convert?

If so, I'm not getting it until the price drops. i bought the damn 8940 for retail on day one, and now the damn thing is 125 bucks. Thank god I waited a little for the 9800, it went down 150 bucks for the holidays (less than 2 months out)never buy anything retail, you'll never think it was worth the money.

Didn't the news article on this site mention some current evdo phones will be able to carry it? I just got the lg 9800 with keyboard and i think its a kick ass phone, I hope it works.

Brothers, I feel your pain, living in New york City and the coverage is still only near the airports, or in manhattan itself. I get the menu pop up at my house, but then it cuts out. I'm just glad I work near an airport, comes in perfect whenever i need it there.

thanks, i guess i'll have to try a 30 minute clip first. I happen to have a dvd recorder and when i burn right off the tv, do you happen to know what format it burns to the dvd? Is this super program you have user friendly and can you easily convert from different formats? do you have a link to where i can get it? thanks.

thanks, I got a link from here on how to do it, hopefully it'll work for me. I actually have the 8940 with the mini sd and the extension of the videos is .3g2 which i think shouldn't be a problem. I'll be trying it soon. One more question i have is how many minutes can i convert to a 256mb mini sd? They didnt have the 512 or 1gig out back in feb when this phone just came ...

i know this may be months later, but i'm trying to look into the 9800 vs the 8940 i own. to get vibrate for texts, just set the phone ringer mode to vibrate only. you will get everything in vibrate, phone calls and texts. other than that, there is no vibrate alert for texts only from what i can see.

Mp3 player is very nice, "IS STEREO". If you get the sd, try to get the 512 megabyte, i was only able to find the 256, but i wanted it. Don't know about the fm transmitter (don't think so) I heard its against verizon policy to use vcast for websurfing, don't really know if it's true, call vzw.

Nope. Speaker phone sucks, but is adequate enough to free you up while driving. Holds as many pictures as the internal memory plus sd card can hold. Thats a whole lot. There's plenty of threads on your specific questions, just read on.

Nope, no clicking noise. Camera quality is very decent for a camera phone. I took one today in the highest resolution and it was huge when i emailed it to myself. camcorder is ok for 15 seconds of whatever, spur of the moment captures. definitely. there's a thread on how to retrieve video via usb , i havent tried it yet.

If you live in nyc, I had to ride into manhattan because no one else had it, goto J&R computer world by city hall. The cable you need is actually the card reader, it plugs into your usb, which goes for about 20 bucks. The 256 mb card i got was $45 and they had one in the computer 512 mb for 60 but it wasn't there. I would suggest getting the 512 if you see it.

dude read the threads on trouble down loading mp3's, it'll help when you run into trouble, notice i said "when" not a question of if, :lol: unless you get it on the first try.. just remember every time you pull the card out of the phone, and put it back in , you have to goto the settings for sd and select "transfer to new phone" otherwise you'll think you lost all your mp3's on the card. peace.
How about putting your own videos from pc to sd card?
Does anyone know if there is a way to do this? Now that we know we can disguise mp3's as midi files, might there be a way to convert an .avi or mpeg file to play in the phone? tech freaks set us free!! :lol:

That's a good question. Maybe it's because they had only so many pages to fill in the manual so they could squeeze it into that little box. I'm pretty sure verizon is reading through the forums and finding out, that their new phones suck, that the low percentile non-average techie person is feeling like we're getting the shaft on major design flaws such as crippled sd, picture id's on outer display, weak speaker abilities, etc. I switched to verizon ...

Ok, finally i got it. Formatting thru the phone didnt work for me because no matter what, i kept getting that stupid parameter error message, so if anyone is having the same problem, do this: format thru pc as FAT, then you yourself create the folders mp3,flix,and pix. Open the mp3 folder up, open your music folder on a separate window, copy and paste your selections to the mp3 folder. Then stick the card in phone, goto menu,settings,sd card,select ...

The problem is ,when i format it in the phone and put it in the san disk reader , i get no such folders pop up, flix,pix, or mp3. The removable e drive does come up but that's it. :cry:

ok i tried that, in my pc formatted as FAT , got the music on the card and when i put it back i nphone did what you said, saved to new phone, and still nothing, doesn't see the music folders on it

It's true what you say about the sd card being crippled , but it is the best extra added feature that the other 2 phones don't have. thanks dude, i will try it. About transfering pix, i was told you can send pix as gif file attachments, send to (your number@vxwpix.com) and that will upload it to your phone. To get mp3 ringtones of your own, get an mp3 you like, shorten it to 30 secs, change it from mp3 to .mid (just play mp3 in wmp and goto file, save as ,and add .mid at the end),and send it to your phone as an attachment. ...
Trouble transfering mp3's
Purchased san disk 256mb mini sd for the 8940, also a san disk reader/writer. Formatted card in phone. Whenever i try to transfer mp3's to the card from my pc, i get a parameter error :o . If I format the card through the pc, i can transfer mp3's to the card but they won't play on phone. Tried reformatting card again in phone but keep getting the parameter error message on my computer.
