Good Phone

Jul 19, 2004 by tom65

I wanted a phone that was tri-mode (Verizon), clamshell/flip, had external caller-id and a speaker phone. I thought it would be great if it was color and had a camera. That pretty much left the Audiovox.

I'm generally happy with the phone. It works well. Here's my pros and cons:

Pros:
Tri-mode
Good Reception
Mostly Stable
Display is beatiful
Audio Quality is very good
Battery charges very quickly

Cons:
Phone reboots occasionaly (only when playing Tiger Woods Golf, though)
Speaker phone isn't great
Camera isn't great (but is better than none)
external display flashes "Verizon Wireless", but can be patched.
I seem to accidently hit the wrong button on the keyboard

A great choice for a not so great price!

This is a great phone to have although the ringers could be better. There are no wallpapers or screensavers on the phone they all have to b downloaded. The camera feature is great and the sounds and speaker phone are loud. Overall a great phone.

PROS: Camera great with light. Speaker Loud. Colors Great. Small and Compact.

CONS: Price 2 High (240.00 w/130.00 rebate)(Cricket)

Amazing Piece of Equipment

Jul 1, 2004 by kitkatmoey

I got this phone about three months ago, and I have not had one single problem with it at all. The sound quality is great. I think that it is the most sleek phone that I have ever possessed, and by far the best one that Cellular One has to offer. My fiancee has the same phone, and he loves it as much as I do. The menu is easy to navigate (for those who are not so technologically savvy), and has a beautiful color display. I had told myself that I would never get a camera phone, but when I saw this one I knew I had to have it. Being in the wireless industry myself, I knew what to look for in a great, reliable piece of equipment, so when I saw this one I had no qualms about purchasing it. All in all the phone is amazing.

Pros: color display, sound quality, easy to read menus, great set up, durable yet compact, cool ring tones already programmed into the phone

Cons: no games included, the buttons are hard to feel, speaker phone is hard to understand if turned up too loud

Great phone with an even better camera

Jun 18, 2004 by sh8dygirl04

I had used the LG 6000 before using this phone and this phone is 100 times better.

Pros
picture quality of cameras
sound quality for being a camera phone
signal is very good
you can take pictures without having the phone open

Cons
At times calls don't register on my phone
ringer is not that loud
outside screen doesn't always light up

All in all this phone is a great phone, since I sale US Cellular phones I have experienced a lot oh different phones and this is by far the best.

Phone Sucks !

I've been through the VX4500 and the VX600 and am now on the 8900. ALL of these phones dropped my calls. I know that the 4500 & 6000 are all digital and thought getting the Trimode 8900 would solve my problems but it doesn't. I think Verizon should chuck their "Can you hear me now" commercials as their service doesn't cover "Everywhere" and I live in a major metropolitan area.

As for the phone, it's got no features, no rings, no games. If you want something as basic as your home phone than the Audiovox 8900 is for you. I am very unhappy with the phone and Verizon's "most checked" cellular system.

Audiovox CMD 8900

I've read all the comments & I don't have any of the problems that ppl are talking about. My outside display lights up well, the speaker-phone is acceptable, bout as well as I get on a regular cordless phone. My old phone was a Nokia and getting use to the new menu set-up took a little while but after I got use to it, it was easy. My front display stays on the Date/Time, I had to go into the menu and switch this feature. When I first got the phone it had my provider's name, but it was easy to change. I'm not sure if it gives me a tone signal when i have messages, haven't got any yet.
Over all I think the phone is pretty cool, the pictures are pretty good, but lets face it, its a PHONE ppl not a digital camera, if you want that quality of pictures then buy a Digital Camera...I think the camera feature serves its purpose, and as time goes on, this feature of the camera will only get better. Remember only a few years ago, the only thing a cell phone could do was to let you communicate by voice.

Excellent onTelus!

May 17, 2004 by Synn

I don't know why all of you guys on Verizon are having so much trouble with this phone... I am in Canada and go through Telus, and there is no flashing logo, or non-removable greeting msg etc!!

With Telus, this phone has GREAT reception! I love the size, and it actually feels like it's made well. I had the Panasonic GD88 prior to this phone and this one feels like it will physically hold up alot better. The camera is good, not great, but it's meant for sending quick snapshots to email addresses or other phones. It's not meant to be a professional quality digital SLR. I have had no trouble with the speakerphone, it's clear as a bell on mine, and the voice dialing is perfect! I have never had to re-say a name. The signal is great, and the battery life is awesome! The outer display is not color, but why does it need to be? It's meant to be a 'quick' look at caller ID or the time/date. And I kind of like the outer analog clock setting. The internal color display is great, though not quite as large as my previous GD88. Telus doesn't seem to need to paste advertising all over the place in their phones so I think that is why we have no software issues here in canada! ;) I have downloaded 3 games so far, and numerous ringtones with no prob. And a hint for you - I read somewhere that LG was commissioned by Audiovox to make this phone for them. As a result, there IS a data cable you can use... It's the same as for one of the LG phones (not sure exactly which one just do a net search, you'll come across it like I did) Then you can transfer midi files for ringtones and as many wallpapers as you want to for free right off your computer.

Overall, I think this is a great phone for the price, and beats out many others that are priced higher!!

VZW/ NY metro/ Southwest US review

Apr 30, 2004 by mederers

Purchased this handset is early february, thus far, outstanding call quality, not one dropped call. i primarily use the equipment in the NY metro area and have experience nothing but exceptional service with the equipment. recently traveled to new mexico, and again, consistently good service.
battery life is great - i often browse the web from the phone(uses a lot of battery power) and i charge my phone once every three days. The menu is easy to navigate, the screen is big as is the keypad.
it's only limits are the following: when taking a photo in a dimly lit area, picture quality is so so.
also, the speaker phone when set to the loudest setting is low @ best.
although the wireless provider offers downloadable ringtones, the selection of pre programmed ring tones is not great.
All around, i am thrilled with the equipment's perfomance.

garbage camera phone

Mar 30, 2004 by cellboy

i bought this phone full retail of 300.00 bucks because my friend that works for verizon told me it was better than the lgvx6000.... so i listened.....stupid me.

not only is this phone nowhere near to being better i feel bad putting the vx6000 on the same page as this hunk of garbage.

first off the phone does win points for size and size alone. it is smaller by a few centimeters than the vx6000 but thats where the praise stops. the menu system is crap the camera quality is crap( and i know its a phone first) I'm the main proponent of this thinking but geezuz if I'm going to have a camera phone i want a decent one. the ringer's are no better than the vx6000 and the wallpapers are garbage both of them...yeah thats right only two on the whole phone. unless you want to pay a buck to download which is stupid i mean the vx6000 has at least 15 wallpapers built in.

the reception on the phone was a little worse than the vx6000 but not noticeably so. the feel of the phone was crazy too i don't know if it was the shape or what but it felt cheap and awkward to hold.

I've got to say if your buying a new phone the lg is only like 20 to 30 dollars more and its worth it. even if your like me and you buy phones at ridicules retail pricing when you want a new one the lg is only like 50 dollars more and its worth it.

i returned this phone in 2 days which is the shortest amount of time a phone has ever lasted with me and I've had some bad phones.

do yourself a favor and avoid this phone at all cost unless of course you have a friend that persuades you to overlook your first instinct like i do.

now i just wish i could get my two days back.
