Just got it...my random thougths.

1. Battery life seems good so far. Been fiddling with it for a while and bar has barely moved.

2. Nice size, not that much bigger than the T637, slightly thicker.

3. Bought off ebay and the phone has European Firmware (R4CE012), no English manual, though it's on the website. What I expected.

4. OTA update is nice, can set it to check for new software once a month, on start up or never. SEUS for PC as well.

5. Installed PC Suite on my XP machine, connected phone and transferred music effortlessly. The PC Suite SW is nice and a major upgrade to the S710 sync SW.

6. Easily set the phone up for Cingular MMS, SMS and internet using the Phone Setup feature on SE's website.

7. Had a hell of a time connecting via Bluetooth unti...

Gee I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The anticipation is killing me! Why don't I just buy it unlocked? Well, I figured it'd be best just to get it straight from Cingular. Because I plan to change my plan from T-Mobile to Cingular due to the crappy reception I get with my phone right now. What do you guys think?

MMS and Misc. Issues w/ Cingular

I've been using the 810i with cingular for about a week now. Love the phone. I had the w600 before this, but have noticed a few things missing. For one, I can't find out how to turn the time on during standby. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Also, my incoming MMS messages are being resized somehow, so I end up with these 160x120 pictures when I forward them to my email or PC. My w600 kept the original image size when it received images and so forth when I sent to them to my email.

Lastly, the phone mentions nothing about EDGE, only GSM and GPRS in the profiles. Does GSM = EDGE?

Thanks,
nathan

Can you customize the message alert?

This is one thing I don't like about the S710a, you only have like 6 built-in choices for the message alert.

Thanks.

w810i vs w810c ?

I see on the sony web page they have both the I and C version of the w810. Can someone tell me what that indicates ? I also found that on some pages that this is slated for Cingular, no mention of T mobile.

Im about to buy a unlocked as I feel it may still be a long wait, anyone disagree ?

Warranty Only Valid in Country of Release?

I just got off the phone with SE sales and they told me the phone will be for sale in the US directly from SE at the end of June for $499; they're taking orders now.

He also said that if you buy the phone elsewhere, the warrany is valid only in the country it was released in. I'm assuming that the phones for sale on ebay and others are the Eurpoean/Canadian/Asian Pacific versions.

Anyone have any insight into this? Has anyone bought the phone and actually used the warranty? If so, where did you buy?

Thanks.

I'm loving it!!

I bought this phone unlocked two weeks go and have been using it since with no problem (Cingular). The battery doesn't last as long as I thought it would, but that could be because I'm always tinkering with the phone, taking pictures, messaging, etc. The walkman is awesome! And I like the key size - easier to text. The phone feels good in my hand, not too big, not too small. The big and bright screen is nice to look at. Especially when you download cool themes. The text messages also come out better, since the font is medium and thin and fit several lines on the screen.

Bottom line: It's an awesome phone!!

Update Service for PC

CAUTION!

I used the PC based update service today for my W810i and it crashed the phone. Talked to SE and had to send it to them for repair, they do not know why this happened. Have had the phone for 2 weeks and it drops every call on Cingular. Love evrything about it other than that. Did request that SE update to latest SW version and Cingular settings, will post again after getting it back.

(I've been a Cingular Agent and service center for 16 years)

USE THE PC BASED UPDATE FOR THIS HANDSET AT OUR OWN RISK.

Another question...Firmware update process?

I really want to get this phone, but the talk of problems with Cingular have me worried. I remember reading somewhere, can't remember where, that this phone was able to do FW upgrades over the air; is this true? I'm just trying to figure out how much more money, and time, I'd have to invest to upgrade FW; cable, software, etc.

On a side note, I assume the proprietary connector is unchanged? I have the SE desk charger for my S710a that I'd like to use with the W810i.

Thanks.

HEY RICH OR ERIC SERIOUS BLUETOOTH QUESTION!

i own both the s710a and w600i. transitioning from s710a to w600i didn't go very well for me because 2 main factors SCREEN SIZE and BLUETOOTH. my s710's bluetooh allows me to manipulate which folder i wish to take bluetooth transferable files from and the w600i doesn't. for example: i can tap into my moto v557 with my 710 and it shows 3 folders audio, video, and pics. out of the 3 i can choose one and take a file from my motorola without having to force the moto to send it. as long as their was approved connection from the moto. now with the w600i i've noticed i can send from and recieve but i can not TAKE or TAP INTO (for lack of better word) a folder from any bluetooth device i sync to the w600i. do any of you guys know if the W810 will al...

Media Player

On the SE site, I was looking at the specs on W810i and it stated it had a media player. But so did the specs on the W600i, but I can't upload movies from my pc to my W600i, does the W810i support movie downloads like the Nokia 6682's Media players.

Watch Video Horizontally?

Eric & the rest of the PS squad.

As usual, great review. Your continued thoroughness and updates are awesome for the community. Thanks again.

Question is: would it be possible, to watch videos in a horizontal format? For ex: when taking pictures the camera shows on screen in a wide screen format.

I am curious if there is an option to watch videos in vertical as well as horizontal format.

Also, could you comment on web browsing as well as overall gprs/edge speed on the device?

Regards,
dolo
