Sony Ericsson S710a

I've had the s710a a little over a month and just got a newer one this weekend. I was getting out of my car, forgot the phone was in my lap and (gasp, OH NO) dropped it! Of all the time I had the old one NEVER dropped it and the first day I get a new one BAM. Now it's all scratched up and I'm ALL about apperiance. But anyways I was wondering if anybody knows that if I purchase a dummy phone can i just remove the plate from it and replace the real one. (I did it with a previous LG.) Is the plate even removable?

I'm thinking of getting this phone with Cingular. I don't have a memory card slot on my laptop, but I have a bluetooth adapter.
Could I transfer mp3's, pictures, etc. via bluetooth right to the memory card through the phone or would I save it on the phone first then transfer it to the memory card?

I was wondering what kind of deals people are gettting on this phone (while bringing their old number to Cingular)? I heard someone got it for $40, but that seems pretty impossible--noting the rest of the market is carrying it for a couple hundred smackers.

Looking for suggestions as to which online retailer I should purchase this from. I understand that the U.S. version comes only in silver, and the black is either European or Asian. Does it matter? Are there differences? What should I look out for?

Anyone know of a way to change your SMS ringtone/notification tone to something OTHER than the boring ones included in the phone?

I tried copying a couple second mp3 to my phone to be used as my sms ringtone, but when I go to change the sms ring, it still only shows the original ones included.

If anyone knows a way, or for sure knows that it can't be done for now, I'd appreciate an answer either way for peace of mind.

I just got an S710a with the R2 firmware, and am I just not seeing it or is there not a regular phone sounding "ring ring" ringtone. I just want a regular ring. Also, if there isnt one, does anyone know where I can download one?

I heard Cingular is now giving discounts on this phone, and it is now priced in the $200 range. But I also heard about getting the phone for $40. But that sounds like a scam. Nobody could get this phone for that great of a deal. Can someone verify this information for me? Thanks! 🙂

Has anyone tried recording a television show in mpeg4 then watching it on the phone?

If I wanted to record and transfer to a memory stick duo can this be done?

Don't talk with the phone flush to your face! Hold the phone with your fingers to your ear and have it at an angle. No problems with the mic being covered then.

ok time to trade in my trusty Nokia 3600...but..
I have a java app (golf score app) that i enter a score and put the phone in my pocket for about 10 minutes till i finish the next hole.. my 3600 is in screen saver mode but i hit any button and am back to the java app. I tried a friends clamshell phone and app worked ok until i closed the clamshell (samsung) and it closed the app WITHOUT saving data so i'm thinking clamshell is out...how bout this swivel or the samsung P777 slider? when they go into screensaver or sleep will java app still be active when they "wake up"??

Can I transfer my phonebook and some pictures/mp3s to another s710a with not alot of hassle? Do I need other accessories? (I'm trying to get one with better firmwire and just transfer my stuff over to it.)

I am considering purchasing a new phone here in the near future. Two phone I have in mind are the Audiovox SMT5600 and the Sony Ericsson S710a.

Before purchasing this phone, I have just a couple of questions that I need answered, that will help in my decision:

1. Does the swivel work both ways?
2. Can the phone be answered without swiveling open? Maybe just answering the call with a button?
3. Using the menu can you make a call without opening the swivel?
4. Is 128MB the most you can upgrade the memory to?
5. Are there any cases or pouches that are available for this phone?
6. How is this phone reception-wise? My zip is 37604 if that helps any.
7. Is the keypad easy to use when doing text messaging? Would you recomm...

I just got a new motorola bluetooth hs850 headset... is there anyway to use the headset with the mp3 player? in other words does the headset play the mp3's instead of the speaker?

My needs you ask?

I like a stylish phone.
I like a GREAT deisplay.
I do not instant message nor do much texting.
I like fun phones!
I am not in the business world.
I only would like Bluetooth for headset needs.
I currently have the LG vx7000 and have no complaints. (if that helps)
I am leaning to the sony, but am afraid of its size as the razor is so light and tight.
A friend just got the nokia and it seems great but I dont think I need everything it has..
You dont have to type a lot simply type the phone you would get out of the 3 ... thanks for you help it is much appreciated..

i here the menus can lag a bit, do the menus always lag or is that a once in a while thing, if always is it really that bad? i am seriously considering this phone and i don't want to have to deal with lag. thanks

is there an easy way to set this up? I live in a small town that has DSL, but i live outside the max. 17,000 feet range. I'd like to see if this phone is faster on the internet.

Anyone know of any IM Clients for this phone? I don't use yahoo or aol. I saw Tipic and Agile, but neither support s710a. F'ing lame. I'm just about over this phone.

I want to download only new messages (instead of all messages) from my e-mail server. I can't seem to find that setting...if it's even offered. Does the s710a have that ability?
