Verizon Blackberry 8830 "WORLD EDITION" Does Not Work In Grand Cayman

I just arrived in Grand Cayman with my brand new Blackberry 8830 "WORLD EDITION" and does my phone work? No! I'm getting an irritating "Device Error: 348". Wow, so glad I got the fancy World Edition phone from Verizon! Pathetic!

Verizon 8830 does not work in Puerto Rico!!

I went to a conference last week in Puerto Rico, and as soon as I got off the plane, I got a "device error :348" message. Try as I might, it would not work. When I called Verizon from a land line, I was told that there is a software error in the phone, and that it does NOT work in Puerto Rico. There were 4 other people at the conference with the same phone and the same problem!!!

World phone??!!

To make matters worse, I asked them if I could buy a phone and have it fed ex'd to me so I would at least be able to make/get calls. They would not ship to Puerto Rico.

I wound up buying an ATT prepaid phone at the local Radio Shack.

When I landed in Houston on the way home, the phone started working fine.

Another QA vic...

8830 vs. 8703e

IM Kinda in a pickle....not sure what to do..i recently went from having a Palm Treo 700p to having a Blackberry 8703e, but now im contemplating whether or not I want to take Verizon up on their 30 day offer and switch to a 8830. Im a bit apprehensive because the customer reviews that the 8703e gets are far better than that of the 8830. The main reason I want make the switch is because the 8830 seems to have more features than the 8703. Plus I feel the 8703e is better suited for the Bussiness type and IM not there yet. I love surfing the browser, receiving emails, so I think the 8830 would be a little more fun....Can anyone let me know what they think? Thank you for reading all this!

8830 ringer volume

I've seen several posts but no solutions/resolutions (even from the verizon-wireless post on may 26, 2007). I just got my 8830 last week and it's on 4.2.2.66 and the ringer volume is like the low setting on my 8703. Anybody heard about if/when this is going to be fixed? Otherwise it's going back and I'll wait for a curve. I compared the 8830 to a Cingular 8800 and the 8800 ringer was like my 8703..

People say low ringer volume..i say no

The profile when set to loud, the ringer right out of the box is low. After messing with it, i went into profiles and edited the ringer. Everything like messages, sms, etc was set on high when on Loud profile. There was just one thing that was set at Medium, thats right the ringer. Set it to high and its perfectly fine. Now this phone is my perfect phone and the best i've ever had.

Backdoor Tethering

I had the LG 8100 and had the drivers, through the music essential kit, to tether the phone. Now with the 8830 there is no music essentials kit to get the drivers needed. Has anyone found drivers for the 8830 to tether without having to use VZ Manager through Verizon Wireless? Or has anyone figured out how to do this with the software that was provided with the device? I was told that they were in there but when I tried to set it up it didn't work for me. I went through all the same steps I did with the LG but still didn't work.

Exchange Server=Battery Killer?

So I got this phone almost a week ago. Truth be told I am trying it out and comparing to the Mogul. Initial impressions were a landslide victory for the 8830, but then a few days later, I got the BES hooked up. Now my battery is gone by 5:00. Even my Q lasted longer than that. Any tips for a newbie to the crackberry on why my batt is so atrocious? I played with it constantly for 2 days straight and still had 25% until I added the BES. I have my other email accounts set to reconcile hourly.

THEMES!

Hey all, I've got one of these now, and I am fiendishly searching for themes, I hope it's not too early for there to be *SOMETHING* out there besides the basics that came with. Anyone have a source??

SPRINT 8830 BlackBerry Questions--New Guy Here

Hi All,

I just received my 8830 and was wondering if the BlackBerry crowd on Sprint has resolved the following issues:
1. Can I dedicate the side button to mute/vibtrate only?

2. Has anybody downloaded a 3rd party application to replicate the calander or text function on the 8830? Similar to the Treo 700Palm system...i.e., color coded.

I appreciate your honesty and consideration in advance.

Menu item magnify?

Hi,

A co-worker had an 8830 and when you scrolled the menus the item that was selected was magnified. I thought that was a neat feature. When I received my 8830 I could not find an option to do the same thing. I asked the guy how did he do that? He said his phone came that way and did not know. He poked around and disabled the feature, but does not know what hed did and cannot get the 8830 to magnify the menu item again.

Does anyone know about this feature and how to enable it?
