Ring tones, changing phone ring.

My husband & I each have a new Motorola W370. They are tracfones if that makes a difference.
My last phone, a Nokia, had a lot of choices for me. This phone seems to have just a default ring and my only choices are loud or softer.
I have downloaded from Tracfone "Amazing Grace" for my husband. It is there in his sounds, but how can I select it for when his phone rings?
If I can ever find out how, I will be downloading other files for myself.
Would sure appreciate some help.
thanks

(I really am technologically challenged when it comes to cell phone)

Are the keys backlit?

I currently have a cheap-o phone through work and will be upgrading to tracfone - hurray for phone independence.

One thing I do need is for the keys to be lit - I can't stand my current phone because I can't see the numbers. I walk in the city at night and for safety reasons would really like to be able to see the numbers!

So, does anyone own this phone and if so, are the keys lit?

Auto On auto Off

Anybody know how or if you can set an automatic on/off for the phone? Thank you in advance for your anticipated reply.

band usage: dual/tri/ or quad

Is this phone, purchased via Tracfone, a dual/ tri or quad band unit? It's important to know...I will need to use it in Europe (with proper SIM card).

Also, what items specifically come in the package?

Thanks.

Question on ring loudness

Hope this makes sense, but I was wondering how loud the ring was? I have a LG phone that the ring loudness when closed is so soft that I can hardly hear it except in a very very quiet area. Working in a business that has very loud sounds all around makes it hard to hear and I can't carry it on me because of what I work around (could break the phone easily)so vibration mode doesn't help.

Thank you in advance!

Problem with texting????

I don't know about anyone else but I am having a big problem with typing out messages. It is probably the lag of the phone in general, but my fast typing doesn't help. When I try to type "Hey whats up" I get Heyzats up. Does anyone else have a problem with typing SMS messages?

The V176 gets a facelift

Beauty is only skin deep - this phone shares more in common with the V176 than it does with the KRZR it resembles. If you search YouTube for the W375 (which is basically the same phone but with a camera), you can find review videos that show this phone has the exact same UI (right down to the SAME preloaded games!) as the V176 and C261.

This is because the V176, C261, W375 and W370 are ALL built for Motorola by Compal.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against this phone - I just think that people should be fully informed before buying what is basically a V176 in a prettier package with MP3 ringtone support added.

Can you unlock the USB

Hello all. I was wondering if you can unlock the USB feature on the W370 Tracfone? If so how? Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

W370 Battery life?

Is the battery life for the Motorola W370 much shorter than advertised, or did I perhaps get a lemon? I have seen the battery life listed as both 7.5 hours talk/10 days standby and 3.33 hours talk/18.8 days standby, but my experience is that it is *much* shorter than this (and I did completely charge/discharge several cycles initially as instructed). Anybody care to send their comments on battery life?

Which to buy V176 or W370?

I'm having a hard time deciding which Tracfone phone to buy the V176 or the W370? The price is the same. I only need basic. I'm upgrading from my V160 because the reception on that one is very bad. I use the phone for emergencies and on the occassional vacation so that I can call home or be available in case of emergencies. The thing I'm most concerned about is according to the comparison on these phones, the battery talk time on the W370 is only 3.3 hours and on the V176 its 8.2 hours? If the W370 is newer, why such a huge difference?
Thanks in advance for any help or information you may be able to provide. This website has an amazing amount of information for which I am very appreciative!

Volume control on W370???

I'm thinking about buying a W370 from Net10. Can anyone tell me if it has a volume control? I'm hearing impaired (half deaf in plain language) and have problems hearing on my Nokia 1100 and would also like a folder. The W370 looks like what I want if I can hear the darn thing.

Custom Image & Ringtone Tutorial

For this to work, you're gonna need a few tools.

Audacity [ http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/]
GIMP [ http://www.gimp.org/windows/ ]
A FTP web host

For Images:

1. Pick the source image that you want to apply for your custom wallpaper or screensaver.
2. Crop and resize the image to 128 by 160 pixels (This may be the native display resolution of the phone, but the browser ganks it a bit.)
3. Save the image as either a JPEG or a GIF.
4. Upload the image to your FTP server, making a note as to the directory path you've used.
5. On your phone, go to Menu>Web Access>Go to URL
6. Type in the URL for the image you wish to download. (If it fails, try again unless the file is more than 100kb. Unfortunatly, that's the download ...

adding wallpaper

OK after some fiddling around I figured out how to add pictures as wallpaper via email.

1. send an email w/attachment to your phone

If you don't know what your email is for the phone then send one from your phone to your regular email account.

2. Read email on phone

3. You should see the picture that you sent. Press the menu button and choose "Save Content". It should have the filename - select "Store" and give it a name - OK it afterwards.

4. Now go back to the HOME screen and select the Menu button and goto "Multimedia"

5. Select Pictures - then select Additional Storage

6. The filename should now appear in the list

7. Choose the one your are interested at and select the Menu Button. Now select "Apply As" and choose...

Rip off.

Short Version of Post : Unless you plan to only talk on this phone, avoid it.

I just got the W370 today. Well, to say the least I'm not impressed. The internet access does not work. You can't even use Google or any other site. The only thing that does work is the Tracefone's built-in site. But by the time you actually have gotten to a ringtone, you'll have used 20 of your minutes. So, instead, I tried to send myself an email with ringtown. Fail. It downloads but will not let you use the Ringtone. It will use 1.5 minutes for every message you open too. I really wish I didn't buy 200 minutes + double minutes for life.

On the positive side - it's a nice looking phone. Other than that - it's barebone. Get a Razr and contract instead....

Cellular One Towers?

Does anyone know what towers this phone works with? If I type in my zip code it does not bring this phone up (or any single rate phones)... BUT if I type in another town in my state it comes up and shows that it will work in my town? I don't get this? So, my town only has Cellular One Towers, does anyone know if it will work for me?
