LG VX-8700

Hi, I'm looking to possibly buy this phone and would like someone's input on it if they have bought it from Telus.

Just saw the LG rep at my Verizon store. The 8700-II will be the upgrade. Touch music controls on front display which will be horizontal position, not vertical. 4MP camera and greatly increased memory, not sure how much. Phone will be made of some sort of composite plastic, super strong and will not get hot. Speaker phone able to be activated whether on call or not. Due out sometime in October.

My current phone will not learn new words in T9! I hate it! Does the 8700 learn new words when you switch to WORD then back to T9? Thanks!

If you are finding it impossible to train your phone for digit recognition, you are not alone. The Verizon tech I spoke with tried a number of phones in her office and all refused to be trained for voice recognition of digits. She indicated there might be a software upgrade as a fix and suggested that I take the phone back to the store to have the programming flashed. I will let you know if that makes a difference.

Tidbits about LG VX8700

To turn off EVDO (broadband communication) and extend battery life:
1. Take your phone. Flip it open.
2. Dial ##77647268700 (##program8700) and hit "SEND"
3. When the 'Service Code' screen appears, dial: 000000
4. In the programming menu, select "3. Network Select"
5. Select "1. Mode Preference"
6. Select the option "1X only"
7. Press OK
8. Press END to leave the menu and return to the main screen.
If you ever do *228 to update your PRL, you will need to reset the 1X mode again, by doing the steps that I have listed above.

To keep the front display always on:
1. Open phone
2. Dial ##PROGRAM8700
3. Press SEND
4. Press Field Test
5. Press Power Save Mode
6. Press Off
7. Press END

Has anyone else had a problem the the charger not staying in the phone? Mine is loose and any bump makes it either fall out or dislodge. I didn't know if it was just mine or if all of them were like this. I like it better when the charger "clicks" into the phone and stays!!

I am interested in the new lg 10000 voyager and new venus lg 8800. Does anybody know what the cost should be thanks everyone. 😕

Has anyone figured out how to set different ring tones for different people when they text message you? Thats one of the only reasons I bought this phone and it doesn't even offer that feature. Could someone please help me?!!

I HAVE A DATA CABLE AND HAVE DOWNLOADED FROM BITPIM, BUT THE PHONE IS NOT BEING DETECTED BY BITPIM.

I ALSO DOWNLOADED THE DRIVERS FROM VERIZON FOR THE MUSIC ESSENTIALS KIT. DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING TO HAVE BITPIM RECOGNIZE THESE DRIVERS?

On the 8600 you could hold and press the # key to quickly lock the phone! I don't see that with the vx8700. Am I missing something here? Help please!!!

I was really impressed with the features of this phone. The exception is the speaker and speaker phone, the quality is poor. That said I bought the phone for features and looks, but the camera was most important and I thought it performed extremely well. The camera has since been rendered useless as it now has fine scratches on the lens which give the pictures a foggy appearance. It seems the front screen display and the camera lens are both plastic which I believe should have been harden glass for phone in this price range. I purchased a case however the camera lens was still exposed. I had a kyocera swivel phone and never had any scratches on the display or the camera lens and I didn't have it a case for the two years I owned it.

I just got this phone a week ago and it seems great. My old question is about how hot the back gets. If i talk for more than 10 minutes it seems to get hotter than my last LG. Is this because it is metal, or a malfunction? Thanks

is the call quality really clear and does it pick up good. since it has only one speaker does this affect it any or is this a good choice. does it have any hissing sounds in the background?

I have an LG8700 and I want to transfer my pictures from my phone to BitPim. Everything with the BitPim program seems to work fine, but after I transfer from my phone to my PC the images(sd)) folder under media in the BitPim program contains the files, but then all are 0.0kb and I preview is blank. Can anyone help me as to why? I have tried different resolutions, and still nothing.

I have purchased a data cable for my VX8700 but it did not include the drivers. Does anyone know where I can get the drivers so I can transfer my pics to my pc?
