Incredible Rooting?

What does rooting a phone do? For instance, I have the Droid Incredible and I am wondering what it does when rooted compared to when it isn't? I have seen the word alot and have never taken the time to ask until now.

Yet another App thread.

It's been a while, and at the rate that new/altered apps come out, I'd like to see what everyone is using.

Alchemy - a friend of mine showed me this game yesterday, and I'm pretty well addicted.

NESoid - working on Earthbound Zero, probably the best unreleased NES game ever.

MLB At Bat 2010 - okay, so the Indians won't make it to the post season. that doesn't mean I won't follow.

Foursquare - I've reached Super Mayor status. I must use it a lot...

Retro Camera - I really like the filters on this one. I've been taking a lot of Polaroids...

Pandora - still my default music app

Easy Root

UniversalAndroot 1.6.1

APK you can download and run on your phone to easily root your phone. You can find the APK on the XDA developers forum. Make sure you have the allow non-market apps checked on your phone. It has a full listing of phones it works on. I have personally tested it on HTC Hero CDMA 2.1 running .6 software update, droid on 2.1, droid x on 2.1 and confirmed it does indeed work. I also tried on a EVO 4G running 2.2 and a droid incredible 2.1 and it failed (check XDA for more detailed info).

This will root the phone and allow rooted apps to work. In order to flash customer ROMs, you will still need to flash a recovery (should be able to do so using ROM Manager from the market).

Data corruption

Overloaded my MYTOUCH 3G Slide with too many txts. Followed the advice of a customer rep and did a factory reset.

Now my phone won't save contacts, delete txts, and runs slower than ever. It also erased contacts from my phone and wouldn't load from my SIM.

I tried to put my SIM in another phone (MOTO Cliq) and was able to recover my contacts from SIM. Put it back in my phone: Nothing.

Any suggestions?

Mine's a Moment, if that matters.

Best Android Browser?

Hey guys, I am Warrikk. I currently own a Motorola Quench on Rogers. It is running 1.5. My question is what, so far, is the best browser app for Android. I've used Opera Mini 5, I've used Dolphin 2.XX for a while. I want to know what everyone else is using and why they are using that one.
