Unlocked + Prepaid SIM cards in Eastern Europe

One thing I don't understand about using an unlocked phone with prepaid cards (I should be so lucky as to only not understand one thing! 😲 ), anyway....

I'm traveling around Europe later this spring and wanted to know if the card that I purchase at my first destination (Warsaw) will be usable at the various other places I'll be visiting (Vienna, Prague), which are, of course, all in different countries and which all have different providers.

Thanks for any info!

Traveling in the Czech Republic

I am going to be traveling to the Czech Republic this summer for 2 weeks. I currently have TMobile and will be using an MDA while I travel, and my brother just picked up an unlocked Blackjack and he will be traveling with that. Knowing that both models work as modems for our laptops we would like to use that feature while we are out there. I know that we should be able to use ALL features we currently have here while there, but we were hoping to pick up prepaid sims instead and still be able to use phone and data.

Anyone know if there is a provider that offers both phone and data for prepaids in the Czech Republic? I looked online on the TMo site but the terms are a little different and it honestly confused me more than helped.

Globalstar vs Iridium in the Brit Virgin Islands

Hello
i am going sailing in a few weeks in the british virgin islands and am planning to rent a phone. Globalstar's website says they have coverage there but some rental providers i've talked to say Globalstar really doesn't work there. I'm looking for confirmation before i go rent a more expensive iridium phone. Has anyone used Globalstar while sailing in the BVI?

Global Plans

When is Vodafone going to strike with global plans? I would imagine there would be roaming if not Vodafone networks are used but still. A step in this direction would be welcome!

PDA Phone & Carrier Choice for FL (USA) and Panama

I'll be switching Cell Phone services and getting a new PDA type phone with Internet eMail, Motorola Q, or Blackberry or something.

Since I plan to visit Panama, maybe spend some time down there and retire there in a few years I'm wondering if there is an inexpensive way to use the same Cell Phone in both Panama and the USA (FL).

E.G. an Unlocked Phone?

I was told by Verizon and Sprint that I should talk to Cingular or T-Mobil because their phones are GSM phones and V & S are not and therefore can not be made to work in Panama.

Still Cingular is talking $1.99 a minute or $2.29 a minute with or without their International Roaming package.

Now a days the cell phone companies sell 'locked' phones so you can only use the phone t...

Two-week trip to Spain; need phone advice

In February I'll be in Spain for two weeks and will need an emergency cell phone. I don't expect to receive calls from the US except in case of emergency, and calls within Spain would also be sporadic, but I will need to know that I have service available if need be. I use Cingular and currently have an LG 1300, which doesn't have 900 or 1800 rating, which Frommer's says I need for Europe. I'm not adverse to updating my phone, but don't want to go to a phone with lots of whistles and bells that I don't need (or want ... i.e., camera) just to do this. Any advice? Thanks!

Nokia 6610i--- purchased in the Philippines

This is a tri-band 900/1800/1900. I have called Nokia, T-mobile and they all say it should work in the US but when i tried the T-mobile sim cards, it says no network. I cannot figure it out. It worked fine in the philippines. It should not be a locked phone. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is is possible that T-mobile sometimes uses the 850 band in their areas? I thought this band was only for Cingular.

Eventual Convergence to 2 Wireless Voice Standards

Do you think people it'll come down to 2 wireless voice standards on a global basis? If you look at it now, GSM and CDMA seem to be the 2 primary ones for voice services. When it comes to data ones, it's an open market with EDGE, EVDO Rev 0 HSDPA/HSUPA having already been deployed with EVDO Rev A and WiMax coming down the pike.
