(wordy) newbie has a Q 'bout travlin with T-mobile

Hello. I'm brand new to phone scoop & brand new to T-mobile.

Just ordered an unlocked 4band Nokia N81 with internet capabilities yesterday. I live in US.

This will be my backup phone and I don't want to pay too much for service and will also be my travel phone when I go on vacation.

I ordered a T-mobile pre-paid SIM.

I want to use the wireless web features in Europe on this phone with my T-mobile pre-paid SIM. The T-mobile reps were a little inconsistant in their answers, so I'm wondering if anybody has any knowledge or experience in using a domestic prepaid plan and temporarilly used it abroad for data plans.

T-mobile advertises the side-kick program, but it is written "domestic" email, text, internet, etc. Also, not sure if...

Samsung Omnia Phone Not for AT&T

I have AT&T service and have been waiting for the Samsung Omnia to be available as several web sites indicated that this phone may be picked up by AT&T. Now as of yesterday, I learn that Verizon will be selling this phone. BUMMER! Seems as if AT&T is letting some of the good phones get away to their competitors. Does anyone know if AT&T intends to sell their own version of the Omnia under a different name perhaps and, if so, when it might be available? Thanks.

Samsung F480 Tocco import...

I am currently in china and really want to buy the Samsung Tocco. I have the AT&T network and was wondering since it has 3G 2100 if I would be able to use it on my network (AT&T uses 2100) much less any network in the U.S.?

thanks a ton,

Let me get this right.

So every cell phone carrier offers some sort of international package.
Great.
So I've got service with a US carrier and go to the UK. Someone in the US dials my number and my phone rings in the UK,right?

And say I'm in the UK and dial someone in the US from my contacts list and the call goes through, right?

New basic travel phone. Here in Bangkok...

It's time for a new phone. I use VZW in USA, need something for Europe and SE Asia mostly.

Any of the newer phones charge from USB? I'd like to carry less cables is possible.

Just a basic phone with Bluetooh support. Would like to be able to backup my contacts easily. the Nokia software is quite bloated.

directory/online phonebook

what would be a good web site for looking up business and residential phone numbers in the US? I use a N82 online to get numbers instead of 411, but need something better than google. Nokia will sell you a directory. But that's through the maps app and i've read some poor reviews. Yellowbook.com is whacked, i haven't heard of other sources. and i'm looking for ideas. Thanks in advance- John

Ideas for use in Norway & USA

I do not have a cell phone.

I am going to Norway for 1 year.

I was thinking of buying a T-Mobile prepaid Motorola V195 for $30 and activate a domestic account, then asking T-Mobile to unlock the phone, going to Norway and getting a local prepaid SIM card to use there. The idea is to have 2 SIM cards at my disposal, depending on the use I need or desire.

Is this pie in the sky? Am I better off to just buy an unlocked phone from the start? Are phones less expensive in Europe? Are SIM cards interchangeable?

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

SIM CRASH in SGH-X640

Hey there, I recently lost my phone but luckily I had my sim card which is with Three (Australia). I got my friends old samsung which she used a vodafone sim card with and as expected, when I put in my three sim it didn't work and came up with 'SIM CRASH'.

I've tried quite a few codes including one where my network code was unlocked or something like that but it still came up with SIM CRASH.

Any help? I really need a phone that works!

Is my 700wx from Verizon going with me to Deutschland?

Hello.
I am attempting to figure out how I am going to use my phone in Germany while I am there for a few months to study.
My situation is this, where I will be staying, I will not have internet in my living area. I need a phone that can be used as a modem in Europe decently cheaply, if possible. I need a phone that let's me create, and edit word, and powerpoint documents. I need a phone that has the voice activated thing that reads a person their calendar entries, tasks, incoming phone calls etc.
Right now, I have it all. For better or worse, freeze or fail I love my treo 700wx with verizon.
Without the features above, I couldn't live. I had the blackberry world edition FIRST but the text messaging was like notepad on PC's, and...

At&t phones that work in Japan

So, I am heading to Japan for a couple of weeks and I am wondering if my SYNC will work over there.

If not what phone do work over there?

The last couple of times I went over there I rented a phone from softbank and that ended up costing me. I feel I am going to pay either way so it might as well be with my phone. Unless you guys can point me in a better direction.

Thanks

Sprint Phone for International Use

I'm due to upgrade with Sprint and wanted to get a phone that would have some international capabilities. The Blackberry 8830 keeps getting pushed, but I'd like to know if others would be just as capable where I travel.

I travel to Europe (France and Germany), Asia (China, S. Korea, and Japan), and Brazil. Not so concerned about Japan, but would like to know recommendations.

Thanks
