A question for phonescoop staff

I don't really know how long phonescoop has been around, but I was wondering if you guys had jobs in the wireless industry before this site started or if you guys majored in other things like journalism and just took interest in cell phones.

If you did have jobs in the wireless industry prior, what kind of jobs did you have?

Missing device: ES400S

Today, Sprint released the ES400S, which can be seen on their website at the incredibly high price of $549.99 after all rebates. Since the second most expensive phone is only $199.99, I came here to compare devices and find out what makes this particular model so darn expensive.

To my surprise, it's not listed in the device comparison at all!

Search modifiers

Rich, what, if any, symbols are included in a forum search? Are search results limited to letters and numbers only? The reason I ask is because I use hashtags (such as those seen on twitter using the #), but I've found that the forum search doesn't recognize # as a valid search term.

Specifically, I search for posts containing "#winning", but the search shows that it searched only for "winning", thus excluding the #. I've wanted to start placing hashtags in posts that I want to earmark for later for reference; is there any specific symbol I could use that would show up in the search results?

Sorry for the tl;dr post. 🤭

Question:

I have never seen a thread be closed before by a moderator, but today in the lounge there was a thread closed. It was along the lines of 'the last one to post here is the winner'.

I am not bothered in the slightest that it was closed out. I am just curious as to the reasons a thread can be closed.

Is it due to the sheer length or the risk of it being one of those threads that can grow exponentially to a huge level for this site?

CES coverage: feedback?

Well, CES 2011 has wrapped up. It was one of the biggest in recent memory; perhaps one of the biggest ever when it comes to phones. We're exhausted and recovering, but already planning for the next couple months of shows and events.

We tried something new for our show coverage this year. What did you guys think of it? We're eager to hear what you thought of both the format and the content.

I've seen this posted a few times and I was wondering what this is and what is it about? Like is it really on the site or is it just some people playing a joke?

Sprint Mail-in Rebate Waiver Correction...

In the homepage news article titled "Sprint Waiving Mail-In Rebates Indefinitely", it states that Sprint has not specified a timeframe for the end of this promotion. Within the company we've been given a very strict end date of 04/16 for this promotion. I'm not sure why they'd give us an end date and then tell you that it's a potentially indefinite offer, but hopefully this will alleviate some future headaches when customers realize this offer is valid for less than a month.

Possible Change to Compare phones?

It would be really useful if under compare phones, it would tell you the version on the operating system, for example, Android 2.1 or 2.2 ect. Windows 6.5 or 7 ect.

Internet Explorer 6 support

As I've mentioned before, we're phasing out support for the Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 browser. Microsoft itself has urged people to stop using it, and now they are stepping up those efforts:

They even have specific resources for companies that still require IE6 for use with their own internal systems:

If you're "stuck" on IE6, please help spread the word!

Of the utmost importance Rich...

After 6 years I've had enough brah. Please, please, please oh my god PLEASE do something about having to type out "blockquote" when you want to quote something.

My level of ignorance when it comes to forum code is easily >9000 so I'm not entirely sure how much of a headache I'm begging you to take on here but couldn't you like put some kind of hyperlink to it so we can just click on it and it inserts both the "blockquote" and "/blovkquote" into our message? (I left that spelling error in to show you the overwhelming source of my butthurt). Or maybe shorten it to "bq"? Or maybe just "quote" like everywhere else? It's like a smart person who's dyslexic. Everything seems normal or even great until you ask them to do this one simple thi...

Dear Rich

Almost a year ago I asked the question about having an easter egg on this site (something hidden that we find and it makes us happy) if so, tell me yes or no.

I was also wondering, is there a flickr group or any devoted phonescoop affiliated cell phone photo group on the interwebs?

One last question (you should be proud of me these are real questions) How are you doing?
