Leaked AT&T letter puts damper on potential T-Mobile acquisition

AT&T has been telling regulators that the deal will lead to job gains and network investment, but the new letter, sent to potential investors, shows that is blatantly untrue.

While the carrier has been telling regulators the acquisition will increase network investment by $8 billion, behind the scenes the company is saying the deal will actually help them reduce investment by $10 billion over the next six years.

T-Mobile said last year it planned to spend $3 billion a year in new infrastructure investments.

Additionally, AT&T has been telling regulators that they need T-Mobile in order to increase LTE network coverage, but the letter seems to prove that is also a lie. The letter states that it would cost just $3.8 b

Why ATT!?!

Everyone is releasing the new BB Bold 9900 this month. ATT...November? 😳
Is this the future that awaits consumers. VZW & Sprint will come out with new devices and ATT former TMO customers will have to wait two more months?

Personalized text ringers?

Are there any newer AT&T phones that allow you to assign personalized ringtones to different contacts for text message ringers?

Currently I have an iPhone 4 and I can customize text ringers using only the limited stock sounds that come on the phone. However, if I jailbreak my phone, I am able to assign real music ringtones as text ringers for each contact. However having to re-jailbreak after every update gets really old.

Does AT&T have any newer style phones that allow this function?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Should I get one? (Free Nexus S at Best Buy - Today Only)

I've been using an unlocked Nokia E71 on AT&T for over two years now. I was thinking of waiting until the next iPhone comes out, just to see what Apple has to offer. If I go the Android route, the Nexus S seems like a nice choice since it's running pure Gingerbread. The lack of 4G and a dual-core CPU doesn't seem like a huge deal for me.

Background: I am not a smartphone power user, in the sense that I don't view videos often and I don't use a smartphone to listen to music. (I'm kinda finicky when it comes to sound quality, so I use my Sony Walkman MP3 player for that purpose.) I'm not a major apps hog. All I need is Google Maps, a web browser, the ability to synch to an ActiveSync type enterprise calendar, and a decent camera with ...

An Update for Our Smartphone Customers With Unlimited Data Plans

An Update for Our Smartphone Customers With Unlimited Data Plans

Dallas, Texas, July 29, 2011
newsrelease

Like other wireless companies, we're taking steps to manage exploding demand for mobile data. Many experts agree the country is facing a serious wireless spectrum crunch. We're responding on many levels, including investing billions in our wireless network this year and working to acquire additional network capacity. We're also taking additional, more immediate measures to help address network congestion.

One new measure is a step that may reduce the data throughput speed experienced by a very small minority of smartphone customers who are on unlimited plans - those whose extraordinary level of data usage puts them...

Best Android?

Guys, I am leaving the wireless industry soon, so will be switching carriers to either AT&T or Verizon (my current company I work for isn't an option, and the free service is barely worth it).

What has been the best Android phone for you guys so far? Anything on the horizon? I will be switching towards the end of August or early September, but would hold off for a little bit to get the next best thing.

Pantech Breeze II

My folks have the Pantech Breeze II and wanted to add picture messaging for when my sisters takes pics of their kids they wanted to send them to her. Now if I understand correctly this phone can get pictures and videos fine. However upon adding the media package to her phone however when someone sent her a picture she was being charged for going on the internet. I am not sure how ATT determines that a picture sent to her is considered going on the internet

Thanks

AT&t and Spectrum

After hearing so much negative bashing I think its time people realize WHY AT&T is doing what they are doing. They know how their network works. They are aware of their faults and they have been recently VERY OPEN about it. They are looking to expand and boost their service to their customers regardless of opinion. It drives me MAD to see so many people bashing AT&T with their recent push to purchase T-Mobile.

People didn't complain that Sprint bought Nextel. At the time, Nextel was unable to stay competitive and Sprint saw an opportunity. Same thing with Verizon buying Alltel. Instead we see a HUGE opposition to AT&T. People say it creates a lack of competition. Didn't that happen when Sprint bought Nextel and Verizon bought Alltel? NO!!...

Unlocking a phone

I have an iPhone 3GS on AT&T. I go to Europe every summer for a month to spend time with relatives. I have a prepaid Vodafone account there just for calls and texts. I was wondering what I would need to do in order to unlock my iPhone. I want to pop my Vodafone sim card in it. Is this even possible? Thanks in advance for all your help.
