not bad not good

Apr 5, 2003 by j h

I have great thing to say and very bad things to say about this phone.
1) the features are the best on this phone
2) the e-mail works great
3) easy to learn
4) I love blackberry
5) it syncs with outlook like a charm

here are the major issues with the phone
1) no loud speaker (I hate that the most)
2) the end button is in the one palce you need to put your had to hold the phone (you will hang up on someone alot)
3) if you are on the phone all day like i am its no good to hold to your ear you will need a headset.
4) no bluetooth ( NO BLUETOOTH) what were they thinking
5)no sure if its nextel or my phone or both but it doesnt work a hole lot
6) you cant hear or feel the phone when its in the case on your outside pocket.
7) i have already had 3 phones break in the same place which is where you charge it
8) battery time sucks very bad
9) you can buy an extra battery but you need the phone to charge it.
10) no color screen
11) the web is very hard to use on this thing
12) cant view attachments in e-mail
13) only one phone number or nam

I want to love this phone I have been dealing with its short fall for months now because no other phone is close to working like this one. I have had all services and almost all the newest phones and i am still trying to make this one work for me. I dont use the direct connect from nextel and still i am with nextel. I wish I could have helped make it so i could get it to work better for us all.

Technology is slow to give me what I really want

All I want is a combination phone/PDA. But I can't seem to find it. I've searched all the carriers in my area(NH) but the ones that have the best coverage don't have many choices as far as phones go. And the ones that have the best phones have lousy coverage.

Anyway I resorted to going with Nextel even though I don't need nor want their walkie talkie service because they had this phone which seemed like it met my needs like calendar, address book, and to do list. That's all I really want.

Well, the features met my needs. I kept my appointments(I use this for my work in real estate) and it worked great. I kept my contacts in the address book(I loved that I could also keep notes with contacts). And the task list was also great.

Now the bad news:
The battery life is ridiculous. If you start the day fully charged you won't make it to the end of the day. In fact, if you're a heavy phone user the battery won't even make it half way through the day.

I don't know if it's the Nextel service in my area(so. NH) or the phone but the reception is lousy. This really hurts especially if the phone is a major part of your business.

When I tried to back up my info on my PC, I don't know what happened but everything froze up and all my info was lost(Quite a blow after I spent the past week inputting my appointments and contacts. I was left trying to remember what appointments I had made for the coming week).

Needless to say I returned the phone during my trial period as the information loss was the final blow.

As said above, a great device with a few limitations. The lack of a speakerphone is the big thing, I've heard the new model (the 7510) has this now, along with a color screen.

Also, a clarification. There is an accessory available to charge an extra battery without having it in the phone, it's like $40.
