Blacksmith's review of the Motorola Moto X (Verizon, 1st gen.)

original version, submitted Jan 11, 2014, 2:56 AM:

Moto X'd out

I put a lot of time in searching for a new phone and settled on the Moto X. I truly believe it to be a very good phone that Google & Motorola Mobility has put together, the first since the merge. This is supposed to be what I read several saying was the "flagship phone".

One would think that the developer of "the Android OS" would want their phone to stand above the rest in beauty and color and it does when you look at the apps and widgets, but open the settings menu and it's like having boring black and white tv after years of watching color.

I also find the calendar app to be, lets say, less than stellar. I have not found a setting to view it other than in weekly.

I certainly expected more coming from a Galaxy S3.

While I haven't figured out everything yet, my gut is telling me to return it for another device pith a little more pizzaz under the hood.

To express my feeling, I will get the famous Yoda to speak.

"Disappointed I am, happy I am not."

I certainly expected more coming from a Galaxy S3. Maybe that's why Samsung is placing so many phones.

Moto X'd

I have not gotten everything set up yet, but so far I like this phone very much. It feels much lighter than my previous Galaxy S3.

Since it just updated to Kit Kat 4.4, I have to learn how some of the new things work and the differences between this and Jelly Bean as well as the phones themselves.

The only thing so far I see is the bland settings menu, a little color would be nice and the calendar app, it needs to show more info in monthly view.

As I see more, I will be back to update.
