Ok ok considering I'm a verizon junkee I'll try my shot at this question... EVDO is the name of a high speed network which Verizon uses to run VCast music, video and the mobile web 2.0... It's also useful for downloading applications quickly from Get It now, sending and and receiving picture/video messages. There are to networks which Verizon uses...1X which is for voice and text messages, and the higher broad band like speed of EVDO. I hope this helps you out a little bit. Can you get it? Sure. Most of Verizon Phones especially higher end phones have this and your enV should have 2 lines of reception. one for 1X and the other for EVDO so you always know how much service of both you have.

I personally feel that answering a question that can be answered by looking on the vzw website is a waste of my time to answer.

If you didnt want to answer it then dont. And for your information I have read just about every page of Verizons website. It does not explain it very thoroughly. So if you dont want to reply to the post with the information requested then shut your hole and look for a different post. Thats all thanks.

Thanks for the answer. So I am assuming the EVDO coverage is only available in certain Verizon markets. (Yes I got this info from the Verizon site) The only coverage I ever see shown on my EnV is 1x. So what does that limit me to?

Where do you live? EVDO coverage should be almost everywhere except maybe the far outskirts of the farm states. And what does that mean for your phone? If you want to access VCast anything (Music, Video) or download things from Get It Now such as different applications at high speed you won't be able to. You shouuld always be able to get some reception in EVDO.

Well I live near Cleveland so maybe I am confused. Let me ask this, how do I know if my phone is picking up EVDO? I can access Get It Now and downlaod certain things like apps and ringtones. But I cant access V-Cast music or the V-Cast Video on Demand. When I try to open those 2 applications I get the error message saying sorry you must have EV-DO coverage. Weird I guess.

On the top left of your screen where the reception bars are, there are 2 different lines. One is 1X and the other is EVDO. for the EVDO is says EV.. Not that hard to see. Even if you don't have the VCast subscription which i don't either, and you're getting EVDO service, you should easily be able to access teh VCast Music because I can anytime I just can't access Video on Demand. And yes you can still download apps from Get it Now on 1X as well. Look closely to see which service you're recieving. That should help you out.

Yea it definitely does not say anything about EV. It shows 1x with 3 or 4 bars next to it. So I clearly do not have this coverage. Interestingly enough the Verizon rep that activated me stated that I would.

It sounds to me like your phone is forced to 1x mode or your phone can't see the EVDO signal for some reason. You may want to try going into the service menu and swithching to an EVDO Only signal to see if your phone is working properly. 👀
In the Service Menu, go to:
3. "Network Select"
1. "Mode Preferences"
"HDR Only"
Press "OK"
Press "end"
This will force your phone into EVDO Only mode.
Now, if your phone doesn't get a signal, your phone may not be able to "See" the EVDO signal. In this case, bring it into a store and hav...

I normally don't editorialize on these forums, but I kinda got a warm feeling when I read a post that was actually very helpful! I just want to say kudos to Ashaneen for giving byebyecellone some real help. The reason I read these forums is to get advice & for troubleshooting tips. Unfortunately there is a lot of garbage on here as well. I just realized that by writing this post I am adding to the drivel I was just commenting on. . .oops. 🤭
