4GB microSD now exists (although you can't buy it yet), but it's a new format that supposedly won't work with most existing phones. Does anyone know if the enV will be able to support it?

Hi,

I bought the new Orange Env phone with 4GB memory from Verizon store. On VZ online, it said the 4GB is supported on the enV with a software update. I verified that my software updated matched the number that was documented. I put the 4GB in the phone. The phone was successfully able to read the card with full 4GB capacity. The problem I encountered was when I tried to pull the card out. The card was stuck in the phone. Some how I got the card out and put it back in. It got stuck again. I took the phone to VZ store . They pulled a new orange enV and tried to put a new 4GB in it. They ran into the same issue were the card was stuck. Finally, I got a 2GB card. The card went in fine and I was able to pull it out too. I called...

You were physically unable to remove the 4 gig card after insirting it into the phone. I'm sorry I've just never heard of that from an enV before at all.I mean i have a 2 gig card and it works find. I ahve San Disk. I mean i don't really need 4 gigs yet but i have been thinking about it a little. If anyone else has this problem, please let everyone else know because w/ the 2 gig card and especially 4 gig card, this would make the enV comparable to the iPHone ifyou think obout it. THanks for that piece of information though.

I just got my enV a couple of days ago! I also got the 4GB card and have the same problem - I couldn't pull it out. It also could not be formatted (I only noticed later that my enV was has version 1 firmware instead of version 2). I'll be going to VZW tomorrow to fix this problem.

However, when I tried to put the same 4GB card into my computer's SD slot, it wouldn't read. So I'm not sure if that particular card is defective.

with version 2 firmware, 4 GB is supported. And you can get the card, just not everywhere yet.

Hi everyone,
I was unable to get the 4GB card to work on my enV. I had to return it to get the 2GB card (tech support couldn't get it to work either), but I also had the "stuck card" problem with the 4GB microSDHC which does not happen on the 2GB.
So unfortunately, I guess maybe the phone cannot accept it. But if someone has successfully been able to get it to read/write without getting stuck, please do post about it. The tech tried a second memory card to see if it would work, but he said it did not either.

I think that's very weird because if version 2 firmware upgrade says the enV can support 4 gigs of memory, then it should be able to work. And what doyou mean it won't physically come out of thememory card slot? Maybe we're missing something here. Did you try to format the card w/ the phone first? I'm confused..

Yeah what happened is, the memory card goes perfectly into the slot. However, when you try to physically eject it by pressing it to pop it out, it presses and "unlatches" (that clicking sound), but then it gets stuck inside (won't allow you to pull it all the way out of the slot). I tried using tweezers (and so did the VZW rep), but it won't come out. Only by repeating the process (inserting/ejecting the memory card) a few times could it be removed by luck. The problem also happened on VZW's display phone too.

Also, I tried formatting the card first on the phone, but it kept saying "failed." Also, it would not get recognized by my computer so I couldn't format it on my computer either. I thought it was a defective mem card, but th...

That is werid. I mean technically as said before the phone can support the memory. I mean I like the fact that the enV is better than the iphone and can pretty much hold the same amount of music and pictures.

yeah I was disappointed that I can't use the 4GB card and had to get the 2. I was hoping to fill it up with all my songs/movies, especially since I do a lot of traveling on planes and trains, which would help pass the time quickly. But oh well I guess I'll have to wait for version 3 software.
