uninsurable?!?!?!?!?!

i'm new to cingular and just acquired this fairly expensive phone. i get it activated and they tell me that the phone is not insurable and that the company has just pulled the service technicians from the corporate stores. am i supposed to just eat the 500-or-so dollars if i crack the lcd or would you guys know any alternate methods of repair and/or insurance?

Insurance hasn't been available on PDAs for some time now. There are private sources, do a search for "insurance" in this forum, a couple of people posted links a few weeks ago.
