MALFUNCTIONING RINGTONES

I bought a Cingular 8525 about two weeks ago. I'm very impressed with it so far. I am having some difficulty with ring-tones though. I downloaded a few music ring-tones from the Cingular website. When I apply any of the ring-tones as the incoming call tone they are very "jumpy" and they seem to "skip". When I play the tones on the phone's media player they run perfectly smooth. I uninstalled and reinstalled them with no luck. Also there are several music ring-tones on the phone that were downloaded to it from a disk at the store where I bought it, and they all work well. The problem seems to be with tones downloaded from Cingular. When I have a few minutes I'll get on the phone with them. Is anybody else having this type of problem? Any...

I had this issue with the 700wx but only with text and email notifications(wav files). Do you have the phone set to vibrate and ring? I noticed that if I turned off vibrate and just had the wav file playing, that it was fine. But when it vibrated and played sound, it had trouble.

I just have the phone on ring and they're all mp3's. I haven't had a chance to call Cingular tech support yet but I'll try later today. I did notice that there were quite a few ring-tones on their website last week that aren't there now though, maybe there is a compatibility issue with some of the ring-tones. I do recall trying to download one ring-tone and a pop-up said that it wouldn't work with the 8525. Who knows. Thanks for your reply.

I had the same problem. I tried to get help from Cingular but they were not helpful. I talked to 5 different reps and 4 did not bother to try to even help. 1 of them was trying to troubleshoot the issue with me and could not help after nearly 1 hour.
The interesting thing is I tried to download a few ringtones from ringtonejukebox.com and I had far less jumpiness/skipping with the tones. They almost disappeared. But I later had a problem with my device (but I am not sure if it was affiliated with ringtonejukebox.com. it could have been any of the other applications I had downloaded)

Do you have an 8525 also? I spoke with a customer service rep this afternoon and she said it was most likely a compatibility issue between the old ringtones and the new phone's platform. I'm probably going to return the phone. She also said to challenge the cost of the malfunctioning ringtones I bought from the Cingular website.

I'm glad you figured it out. I spoke to Cingular and they want me to send the phone back for a replacement. I guess we'll see what happens. I do agree that the issue is probably with the cingular ringtones though.

Why do you download ringtones? It is so easy to just save mp3s onto the phone and use them. And if you want just a clip from a song there is a ton of freeware out there that would let you do that. I just see it as a waste of money!
