Transfering calls to the phone from a bluetooth headset

I had made this comment in an earlier post, but it's so frustrating, I thought I'd give it its own post. My old phone was a Sony Ericsson T610. It had its quirks, but I loved it. One thing it did which I now realize I'd taken for granted (since it was my first phone) was the fact that it knew where to route my calls: either through the bluetooth headset or through the handset. The a990 seems completely dumb in this regard. On my T610, if I answered a call using the button on the handset, the call would go through my handset. If I answered the call with the button on my bluetooth headset, it would route the call through my headset. I also had it set to ask me whenever I placed a call, where I wanted the call routed. I was unclear about one thing. The option to transfer the call to the handset is in the options menu, but during the process of making a call, the options menu is not always there. That's why it feels like a race.

The way I'd said it earlier implied that it was because my headset was too far away.
