Just got this phone and it ROCKS!! Noticed one inconvienence though. I cannot copy the music I bought directy from the iTunes store onto my phone. I'm sure its because Apple has a propietary file type, but has anyone found a work-around for this. Thanks in advance.

I did noticed that when I purchased the w600 the music software (Disk2Phone I think it's called) extracted all my songs from iTunes to D2P, but I couldn't move them from D2P to the phone. That's how I ended up with the SLVR.

Hey!! I have a similar question. It seems like all the leagal download pay as you go sites only offer WMA files and the 810 doesn't support that file type. How can I convert the WMA to a MP3? Anyone know?

iTunes has a built in MP3 encoder. Add the wma files to your iTunes library and it will convert it to mp3 or AAC at the bitrate you specify.

Right now I have never downloaded music..I know I am behind in the times, but I was a little paranoid about getting in trouble or something....ANYWAYS, so if I sign up with iTunes I can change the format? Or can you just use their software to convert it? so I could theoretically buy elsewhere and run it through iTunes software to convert it?

Thanks for all the help! 🙂

iTunes is free to download and yes you can use it to change the format of your wma's. I had a large collection of wma's at one time that I converted to mp3 with iTunes and had no problems whatsover.

That sounds great but, does this mean that you can plug your phone directly into your computer and transfer the music? Or connect a card reader and do the same?

Basicly, what I'm asking is, do we even need to intall the Disc2Phone software or can you just use iTunes?

as long as the file format is supported by the phone and isnt protected the yes you can use a mem. card reader. however, the software does help in terms of bit rate size. thats why i use it. it converts all my 200+ bit rate songs to 128 so i can fit a tad more. 😉

yes. its rips itunes tracks so that the sony can play them. however it hasnt been the best for me in that depatment. some songs become unprotected and some dont. but that only matters if you purchased the track through itunes or you converted it to an itunes locked song. 🙂

No you do not need disc 2 phone to transfer music. I use iTunes and a card reader because I refuse to use the D2P software cause it is extremely slow. I use iTunes to change the bitrate of the music in my collection from a high (192+) to 128 so I can fit more on the memory stick. This can be done by right clicking the song(s), convert to mp3 or AAC (user defined) and iTunes creates the lower rate song in the main library underneath the high rate one. Right click, copy and drop on your memory stick. Keep in mind that you have to manually change the bitrate by going to itunes>edit>preferences>advanced>importing>Im port using (either mp3 converter or AAC converter)>then setting to change the rate.

This has proven to be the quickest way in my...

Now that I have manually converted the songs that I have in my library to MP3 (through the edit task), will every song that I import via CD automatically be converted to MP3 and 128 bits?

I noticed that songs purchased from iTunes will not be converted.

"Now that I have manually converted the songs that I have in my library to MP3 (through the edit task), will every song that I import via CD automatically be converted to MP3 and 128 bits?"

That would be correct. Manually change the bitrate/format back to what you want for importing music you intend to keep. If 128 suits you, leave it.

"I noticed that songs purchased from iTunes will not be converted."

...think burning an audio CD of your iTunes music and go from there...

Hey since you are the resident expert. I need your help. I am FED UP with trying to get legal freaking music onto my phone. I bought a song from Walmart music and iTunes wouldn't convert it. So I thought okay I will pay a little more and download a song from iTunes and try it that way. NO DICE!! It still wont convert the song I BOUGHT from iTunes. I copied it directly to my phone and it wouldn't play. I tried disc to phone, but it didn't recognize that there was a playable song on there. I don't know what I am doing wrong! i thought iTunes downloads were mp4 and those should play, but then when I looked at the song on my computer its an m4p. Any thoughts about what I am doing wrong?

Thanks! Sorry to be such a PITA!

Great question! I will be awaiting the answer. Did you try to add it via card reader? Also what I read on this forum is you will probably need to burn an audio cd of the purchased iTunes then add to phone. Let me know what happens.

iTunes will only convert songs imported via your computer or CDs, not ones purchased from iTunes.
