You can't. I don't know what they were thinking.

The best thing to do is free up as much of your phone memory by putting everything you can on the card. Also, right after taking a long movie, move it over to the card right away so you can take another.

Do you know about putting music videos onto the device? I got the file format changed to .3gp and added it to the card both directly, and via the sync cable. It will play the sound, but its garbled, changes to be 30 mins long, and there is no picture. Any ideas?

Hey Jeni,

You can not do the "change the extension trick" for videos.

You have to actually convert the video (down) so that the phone can handle it.

This is how I do it:

Search around for "t809 or d820 video encoding" for more info.

I found your post about this last night after I replied, and, well, call me slow... But I could not for the life of me figure it out!!
I found the encoder you were speaking of and downloaded it, but it couldn't even open my files!
I tried going to emule and I SWEAR all I got were pics of the Royal Family!!
I like to think I'm tech savvy, but these samsungs are KILLING me!! 🤭
I will try again and figure out what i'm doing wrong!
Thanks for the help!

P.S. You seem to be REALLY up on this phone. Let us know when and how we can get the D802? Firmware into these t809's. I'm DYING to see what it can really do 😉

You are NOT slow Jeni. I remember having a hard time getting the full version of the program. These encoders seem to be hit and miss with different people. You may want to try a different program like Xilisoft and just use similar settings to mine.
I hear ya about the samsungs. I love the size and the way they look for all the features they have, but the SonyEricsson User Interface is sooo much better. The new E900 has Samsung's new Black UI which will be interesting to see.
As far as the flashing to D820 firmware...no stores are doing the flash just yet, but many people are just buying the special cable off ebay for $10 and doing it themselves with good success. Look up the real specs on the D820 and you'll see what our phones can rea...

Ok, so Xilisoft looks very promising for me, 🙂 but I can't seem to get the right combination of settings. I tried changing all I could to be as close as possible to the settings you suggest.
Each time I adjust the audio settings, I get a failed message. If I play that "failed" clip on my phone, it freezes and resets.
With the default settings, I get the first frame of the video and nothing else...
Any more advice to offer???😁

Now I'm getting frustrated too! 😁

I hate when you put in all this effort and it doesn't work.

Here's some info on encoding/converting:

I think there are some settings for Xilisoft in there.

This one was a life saver for me:
(just be sure to read the whole thread before trying)

These both are from here:

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck Jeni 😉

Ok, I went ahead and downloaded ImToo3pg converter (I thought maybe I should try something else, but it's essentially the exact same as Xilisoft!) and I'm having the same problem...

Here's my issue. When I convert the files, there is no content in the converted 3pg file. the size will be only 0 - 3kb. So nothing actually plays beyond the first frame because it seems that's all that's in there. It's almost as if I'm creating a title with a *.3pg file extension...
What am I doing wrong??

That's strange. Maybe you are using the trial version of the ImToo3gp and it won't let you convert large files? Try to check that you aren't using a trial version of the software. Other than that, I'm not sure what you're doing wrong?

It is actually the trial version, and the longest duration it will convert is 20 min, but the longest file I'm trying to use is under 5 min.
There shouldn't be an issue with me converting from .avi to .3gp, should there?

This is KILLING me!!! 😢

I've gotten so much good info from the links you've provided. I thank you SO MUCH for all your help!

I will keep trying different things and hope for the best... 😉

At least once you get this figured out, you are going to be a pro! 😉

One thing I noticed is that you are converting to 3gp format. The phone can play this obviously, but mp4 format is much better (which is what my settings are for). Are you using my settings with the 3gp format? That might not work because 3gp will require lower settings because it is lower quality.
