lil' tip to darken external screen
Service Menu on SE...change contrast...
1. press right arrow
2. press * key
3. press left arrow 2 times
4. press * key
5. press left again
6. press * key
you're there...Service settings- external contrast, close flip, use volume keys to adjust.
** the external "sleep clock" needs to be ON in order for this function to work though **
This helped me a lot as the battery and reception signal were very difficult to see b/c they were so light. It's still hard to see them though b/c they're so small, but it helps a little at least.

Lil'??? This is a great tip. I also noticed that the sounds can be tested. While doing this you can raise the volume. I wonder if this raises the master volume for the earpiece. So when you adjust the volume during a call, it makes it sounds louder.

Well, glad I could help (I found this trick at Howardforums.com).
I'm not exactly sure I understand the volume trick you're talking about. Could you tell the buttons you used to do it, or where in the menus you go to?
Thanks.

Wow, I just tried it myself. I can't experiment with how the ear speaker sounds after adjustment right now, but it was easy to find-- just browse through the tests in the service menu.
-- very cool post!
