searching for contacts

I am coming from a Nokia phone that seemed to have a superior method of searching for contacts, but I am sure I just have not figured out the more advanced features. When I am in the contacts list I can input any letter and it brings me to the first name of the people whose name start with that letter. Then only option I have found after that is to scroll through all of the names that start with that letter. There does not seem to be a means to enter multiple letters to narrow the results or include the last name in the search. Thanks for any advice.

funny, i was wondering the same thing but i finally realized the contact list is not as easy to scroll thru as the Nokia phones. up until now, my last 3 phones were Nokias and they are great when it comes to scrolling thru contacts. i have been doing what jimspobox advised you; scroll to the letter and scroll up or down, depending on where u are in the list. i wish this phone had the option to input the contacts address under their name as all my Nokias did but i love this phone, so im not going to complain too much. i dont know if the newer Nokias still allow that.
