The E815 Echo Issue

Bilal2k

Ok, so I know that the main reason for getting a phone is obviously for the benefit of having a phone, (meaning excellent reception and so on).

But, I've browsed around and noticed there is an echo issue going around within the microphone. So does anyone know about any fixes anytime soon? Or if not are there any phones Verizon offers that are close to the specs of the E815. And no, I'm not talking about the VX-8100, the retail price of $440 is definitely not worth it. I was thinking about the VX-8000 but then I'm not too sure about how good the reception is closely compared to the E815, plus it is $90 more than the E815 retail and the features don't seem to scream $390.

The echo is a minor issue and happens very rarely. The advantages of this phone far outweigh any disadvantages, like the echo or those that like to "play" with the hinge to see how tight it is, big deal!! 😎

If you want to try the 8000, go try one. They are discontinuing them so they may not be around long. Then choose the one YOU think is best! 😉

But when I buy a stores flagship best they have to offer phone you bet I don't want play in hinge, echo, creaky shoddy assembly and or construction, and so on.

I have always been a Moto fan dating back to my beloved star tac and timeport 270c.

But my V60s and this 815 BLOW!

From a build quality standpoint LG and Samsung is much better designed.

Then by all means you should go ahead and get one of those phones! 🙄

But for me, and most of the other people on this forum, I have not noticed ANY hinge problems, the reception is great and only once in 3 weeks did I get a very slight echo. I don't even know if was the phone or the service was the problem, but it was very minor ...

I am awaiting the next shipment to my local store. Hoping they will be better than the 10+ I have seen thus far.
Either my expectations are too high or quite possibly yours are low.
I'm happy for many here that they got "perfect" E815's. I have not witnessed one yet, but I have not given up.

This echo problem, is in all of the E815's. There is supposed to be a software update that is coming from Motorola. That was 2 1/2 months ago. I am waiting for the Razor, which started production yesterday, and should hit stores in or around Nov. 17th. Exchange Exchange Exchange!!!!

Actually there is an answer to the echo problem a few have been having. I was having problems with it myself before it tried this. You have to change your phone's call bandwith to 13 kodek. In order to change this setting do the following:

menu + 0 + 73887 + * (leaving out the plus signs) Then enter the security code :000000. Then switch the voice code from EVRC to 13K

Verizon uses EVRC to compress all the calls made into their server at the expense of quality. Using 13k gives superior quality to all of your calls which means no echo, less static, and hopefully fewer dropped calls.

Wow, thanks for the great detailed response. This problem (the echo alone) is the main thing holding me back from this phone. The V710 was amazing and this is even better and obviously I want reception over features first, though I really wished Moto had the external screen to at least 65k. Can any other's respond to this message above me and also claim it has stopped the echo for good?

I had a severe echo when using a Bluetooth car kit. I set the vocode to 13K and it still echoes.

I am going to test a couple things, like disconnecting the input mic and speaker from the car kit, to make sure they are not part of the problem, even though it works fine with my wife's phone in the hard-wired cradle.

Hey,

thanks for the info on how to change it, but is there a way to change it back or is it by doing the same thing?

Can you be more specific - I'm a little confused by "menu" - do you have to have it a particular mode to press menu - I'm in list mode

Sorry to seem stupid, but I just got my e815 phone, and have the nasty speakerphone echo problem. I am having trouble with the voice code change instructions. When I hit the menu button, and then the number 0, all I get is "Invalid entry". Can someone help me? Many thanks.

Just change your phone out. I had the same problem and when I exchanged it, the second was fine.

Go back to Verizon and DEMAND an exchange. Keep exchanging them until you get one that works. After the third exchange, they will upgrade you to the next compatible model. I exchanged my e815 once already for the echo problem and the second one seems to be fine.

I just got my phone and am trying to follow your directions but nothing seems to be happening. For clarification you are telling me to press the menu button, then the number "0", then the numbers 73887 and the the "*" key. Correct? This does absolutely nothing on my phone.

Also, any thoughts on the phone being set to vibrate but when a call comes in, the phone rings and it does not ring to the ringtone set for the phone.

Nice phone but I am a little frustrated.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The VX-8000 is an AWESOME phone. The reception is a bit weak in certain areas though. You may want to give it a try if you don't need bluetooth.

I don't find the echo happening very often. In fact, it does not seem to happen any more or less than it did with the v710. Actually, I think the echo problem is more of an issue with the network than with the phone. Every CDMA phone I have ever had did it from time to time.

I had my third Moto 815 reprogrammed the other day (again) and at last the blasted echo is finally gone (at least so far). Its amazing how phenomenal the phone is once the echo is not a problem. I'm really happy with the 815 now. Hope you others with an echo problem have the same luck as me in getting your VZ tech to do the right reprogramming on your 815 that actually fixes it. Just be persistant!! 😁

I have the echo problem. Do you know exactly what the "reprogram" is so I can ask the tech. The last time I went they said there is no software upgrades or anything like that. I would appriciate it if you can find out, thanks!
