How many E815 owners agree with me

There are some pros to the phone like reception and battery, but here are my gripes:

Loose creaky squeaky construction of phone, makes cracking noises as you press the keypad. You can feel the case moving.

Sloppy side to side play in hinge. Mostly felt when flip is closed.

Echo or sound like I'm speaking into an empty 55 gallon drum.

Buzz or crackle in earpiece heard when other party speaks on high notes, regardless of my volume setting.

Dim power key.

Not the loudest speakerphone I've heard.

Now here is the part I really don't understand. We all waited somewhere in the area of 5 months while VZW tested this phone, or at least that is what I read here on numerous threads. Exactly what were they testing?? The first ship...

I have to disagree with you on some of the stuff you mentioned.

When I press the buttons mine doesn't make a creaky squeaky noise....

The hinge is not the tightest but either was my vx7000, plus im not gonna sit there and push the hinge back and forth...

dim power key doesn't really bother me, i have had other phones with the same problem I think its the red or something, I believe only my samsung A310 had a dark red power key...

Speaker phone is loud as hell I don't know why you would want it louder...I think this is one of the loudest phones I have owned and the ringers are loud too...

So far haven't heard a buzz in my phone when talking to someone, but I'll look out for it. My vx7000 did make some funny noises and that g...

The echo I have noticed once or twice not sure why it does that... anyone else have that echo sound?

Yes thhe earpiece "echo" is what bugs me the most about the phone. If I hold the phone a couple inches further from my mouth when talking it stops tho. Maybe the mic is super sensative but oddly it doesn't do it all the time 😕

Try this advice for the echo starting with post #65 by MrSiv: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t= 670974&page=5&pp=15

Skorpyo have you had any prob with the Scala 500 staying on your ear? No matter how I tried I couldn't get it to stay on... The sales rep told me my ears were too little... I mean, really. I do not have freakishly tiny ears, people!

"Loose creaky squeaky construction of phone, makes cracking noises as you press the keypad. You can feel the case moving."

If I press down hard on the button, I guess it makes sortof a crackling noise...but it doesn't bother me at all. You make it sound like it's breaking the phone, but it just sound like you're pressing against some crackly, flexibe material somewhere on the inside.

"Sloppy side to side play in hinge. Mostly felt when flip is closed."
Being that I don't use the hinge when the phone is closed... :-P

"Echo or sound like I'm speaking into an empty 55 gallon drum."
Haven't heard it yet, although I've only had this phone for a few days.

I got my phone the very day it came out, so it is one of the early ones. It is solid. I do not have any of the problems you listed, no creaks whatsoever, not at all. earpiece is crystal clear, hinge works great, no echo. and beleive me i am picky. for sure some of the phones are bad and some are good, i got lucky and i am afraid your phone is most likely defective. so, take it back and echange it and you will be as happy as i am with it. but make sure you take the new one out of the box and try it at the store to be sure you do not get another bad one. verizon should be ahamed of themselves for releasing problematic phones...but just do you know, they are not al bad. mine is wonderful, by far and wide the best phone i have ever had.

9 VZW stores in my area and only 5 E815's between all of them, and they all exhibited the same issues, in fact all 5 had much more play in their hinges.

One sales mgr. and a tech is working with me and will contact me when another shipment arrives, hopefully I get a good one, or move on.

I have had my e815 for a week now, and I have to say it is the best phone I've ever had, bar none. The feature set is awesome, the directional keypad is fully customizable, the reception is unbelievably great, and the manufacturing quality is superb. I cannot say enough good things about this phone. Verizon have outdone themselves. Also it was a sweet deal, I got it through my corporate program for about half the cost of the public retail channel. 😁

When I'm walking around with my bluetooth headset on, I feel like a SUPER GEEK! Combined with the new call forwarding system at my work, I was able to conduct business yesterday afternoon while walking through a forest glade dappled with sunlight, the summer air punctuated by the sound of bi...

Go with the consensus: take the phone back to the store and get another one. You can find another e815 without any of those problems. Take your list with you, take the new phone out of the box and test it, and don't leave until you have a good one. Once you get past the problems, which I'm sure you will, it's worth it. I like mine more each day as I learn to use its great features. Especially love the voice recognition. And don't let the sales people convince you no one else is having problems.

I will tell you what I think is that some of you guys are overly picky when it comes to these phones and maybe need to sit back for a second and relax a bit.

If you compare this phone to the other verizon v-cast phones this is by far the best one of them all I mean c'mon now the reception on this phone is amazing, you guys need to relax a little and stop being so manic!!

My phones have not had any problems. I have two and all is well. I did have a problem with picture messages not sending ,but Verizon tech.support fixed it right up on both of my E 815s.
This is a great phone and I am very happy with them.
The flip hingses are tight ,no creeking, buttons are perfect and the sound is clear.
I think mabe the network is the problem at times for people not getting clear sound.
Remember this is a CELL PHONE.Radio waves can have interference at times and the signal may be week at times.
Good Luck with your E-815
