I'm looking at the same decision, Treo 650 vs. the i730.

Even as a 2 year Samsung i700 user, I cannot justify $600 for a phone without a camera. The battery issue is definitely a consideration as I've lost everything in that phone when the battery ran out. Despite backup and reload-ability of my Address book from synching with Outlook, you still have to re-install any added software. You also LOSE your Call History permanently unlike with the Treo 650. With the Samsung, it's too easy to accidentally press one of the side buttons and reactivate the screen when putting the device in your pocket after turning it off. This has resulted in unknown calls being made and people listening to my conversations without my knowledge. Another considera...

The Treo can't access WiFi because there are no factory drivers that are built for it that will work with the cards out there. It is able to access the internet over Bluetooth through ICS and works quite nicely but Bluetooth is limited by distance. I can use it int he room my adapter is in and the room beneath downstairs fine, everywhere else though I can't connect. There are signal boosters around though to increase the range but I seem to be capped at 177 KBS. If you want a good phone and organizer go with the Treo 650. If you want a device that you will be using mobile services and internet frequently go with the Samsung i730 because in addition to the WiFi you also get EVDO.

Thanks RX. Here more to ponder:

So far, it appears Verizon is handling the i730 the same way they handled the i700 as they don't stock it in their stores. I had to order my i700 from the store then wait a day or 2 for it to show up FedEx. Even then, when I had a problem, NONE OF THE TECHS in any Verizon store could help. Always got the same answer, "You have to call the data dept, here's the toll free #".

Imagine, you buy a carrier's most expensive phone and you can't get help in their stores? F**K ME, BULLSH*T !!!!!! No doubt the i730 will be handled exactly the same way. Aside from all of the above nonsense, I'm on my 6th i700 in 2 years which makes me leary about trusting a Samsung PDA and Verizon (together) again.

These are j...

If you have a wireless router at home, you're obviously using your PC(s) with it, right? If there's something you need on your Treo from the web, you could download it to your PC then download it to the Treo.

Do a google search on "Treo 650+WiFi". There are solutions out there. However, I think before long PalmOne will offer a Treo driver for their SD WiFi card. And if they don't, I'll bet someone else will. The standard memory in the Treo might be a limiting factor, so a WiFi+Memory SD card may turn out to have to be the solution.

Believe me, I too think Verizon has nerve forcing a $45/month data plan rate on those who want to seriously browse the net from their phone.

Also, if your PC at home is equipped with Bluetooth, you may be able to access the net that way hitting your home wireless router through your PC.

Does the Treo 650 have voice dialing? Do you have to train it or does it automatically recognize any voice command?

How is it on the i730?

The same VoiceSignal software that comes on the Samsung i700/730 is available for the Treo 650 for $19.95.

THe lack of built-in voice dialing is a shame since my last two PalmOS phones had it, but after seeing how capable the add-on is, I like it much better -- $19 about to be spent.

"Call Bob Thomspon Cell" and it does.
"Call 3-3-1-8-2-1-1" and it does.

NICE.
