Verizon Pricing

I am a VZ customer with a 2 year plan, not yet eligible for upgrade. VZ store told me I would have to pay full price to get TREO 650. Egads. Might be cheaper to just add a line for $10/month! Or I could cancel for $175 and start over. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What are they telling you is full price? I paid $299. I think the regular price was $399. I was eligible for the 2 year renewal, thus the $100 discount.

Full retail price on the Treo 650 is over $800. The cellular company will sell a new or renewing customer the phone for a reduced price in exchange for a contract over which they expect to recoup the money lost selling the phone at a discount. If you are in contract, then they will not give you the discount because they already have you in the contract.

so cancel your contract, pay the buck fifty ($150 cancellation fee), sign a new two-year and you'll come out ahead if the full retail is really $800+

$800? Since when? I bought mine, paid full price, and it was $499. Who's quoting you $800?

The price for the phone is $450 with one year contract and $399 with a two year contract. That's not full retail price. Full retail price is much higher. It's difficult to pin down prices on new phones due to the fact that most of the prices that you see require contracts. Note that the company doesn't pay full retail, they order thousands of phones from palmOne (and others) and so get a discount.

I do technically have a corporate account, but it's only six phones, and I only ordered one 650. The price was $499 plus tax without a contract.

I went to a Verizon Store and teh price is $399 as long as you qualify for the once every two years option. Then you get a $100 discount for enteringinto a 2 yr contract brining net total cost down to $299.
