Blue tooth was designed by Motorola I believe, so having it on a non Moto phone especially Sanyo that's a good competitor, its not likely to have it. Motorola reminds me of Bose, great product but with a snotty attitude. In general I agree though. If its going to have it all it should have it all.

Snotty attitude? What? It's a useful technology quite simply.

Bluetooth exists on a plethora of devices that are non-Motorola.

CDMA carriers and phone manufacturers are either 1) lazy, 2) wanting to be overly careful about the way they allow data to be accessed, or 3) both.

Oh I know it's a useful technology but if Moto would let anyone use it, that might bring some cost down on the handsets and headsets. I'm just not fond of the prices of both.

Call me a cynic, but I think it's #2. Sprint and Verizon don't want you downloading your pictures off of your phone using bluetooth - they want you to pay $5/month to use their crappy picture mail services.

Similarly, they don't want you creating your own ringtones and uploading them to your phone using bluetooth, they want you to buy them from their sales decks.

Quite simply, bluetooth is far too useful of a tool for Verizon and Sprint to allow it on their phones.

(Yes, I'm aware that bluetooth phones exist for those carriers, but t...

Bluetooth has the ability to be customized to only allow certain features that still enable Sprint (who by the way, has the most amount of content downloads of any carrier or content provider by a very large margin) to retain their ability to sell content.

I personally thing it's laziness, and their interpretation of the market's uptake of Bluetooth, which isn't huge, but still worth supporting.

The only feature I want via Bluetooth is the ability to use wireless headsets.

Actually, it was Ericsson that invented Bluetooth. They first came up with it around 1996-97. Motorola didn't join the Bluetooth SIG until 2000, I think, by which time Ericsson was already shipping Bluetooth headsets.

Rich knows his stuff and he should. This is his site. Ericsson decided to share the technology instead of keeping it to themselves. I'm glad they did, I use my Motorola Bluetooth headset w/ my Nokia 6600 every day.

If I'm not mistaken, Ericsson developed Bluetooth in 1994. 1996-1997 may have been when they first rolled out with it.

Bluetooth was designed by Ericsson. Now it belongs to SE. Motorola only licenses it. That's why SE has the most Bluetooth enabled phone. Unlike GSM network, CDMA carriers have a lot of control on what handset can be used on their network. On a GSM network, the handset makers have more freedom to do what they want and compete on features and price. Take any multi-band unlock GSM phone, you just install you sim and use it right away.

Those who know what's bluetooth and want it are still in the minority (if not geeky). It's gaining some publicity but most customers just want that cool wireless headset. The phone makers don't want to pay SE royalty to include bluetooth if they don't need to.

Unfortunately, this device does not work well. Not only is it cumbersome to have a big wart attached to the phone's headset jack (and the design of the headset itself is questionable), but the 'turbo button' feature does not work either. Pretty pointless, and expensive.
