Will verizon butcher this one again?

I was thinking of getting this phone, I am deciding between this the 6100, and the 670. After reading about the v710 in business week I belive, I am reluctant to get a motorola. Now I have the t720 which I hate, and I wasn't to fond of the 4500. Can anyone tell me if this phone feels like it's going to break the first time you use it like the t720 does? Another problem I have with the t720 is that it drops call too often even with 5 bars of sevice. The 4500 wasn't bad it just felt too bulky. Since I keep my phone in my pocket as opposed to a holdster regularly, I would like something a little less bulky. If there are any other flips I should be looking at, or waiting for please let me know. Thanks

i wasnt able to see this phone on, but it is about the same size/weight as the vx3200 lg or the samsung a650 (just a bit taller) it seemed sturdy enough... not sure if i like the hard plastic buttons tho... may be hard to not slip off the keys. The one drawback i see in relation to the vx6100 is the v265 has an extendable antenna... which may get caught on things in your pocket....

I saw this phone today at Radioshack. They were nice enough to put the battery in for me and let me play around with it. It's a solid phone. It's about the same size as the v60, looks pretty nice, has a small but adequate screee, but has a bit of a cheaper feel to it. The buttons felt a bit flimsy. Still, I wouldn't mind getting it, although it's on the pricey side at 349.99 if you don't sign a new contract. I think it's nicer than the Samsung A670 which I have, but that's mostly because I don't like the Samsung OS...

$349.99???? The word on the street is that it's $149.99 with a 2 year contract. And on Radio Shack's website, they're already offering a $50 rebate, bringing it down to $99.

RS is $349 for Full Retail, but Verizon will have it Full Retail for $269. Why does RS have to sell it for so much more?

Radioshack always has higher full retail, but often has lower new activation price. We also only charge $30 price difference between one year and two year activation. Through Verizon directly, the one year upcharge can be $50 or more. Also, we don't charge more for upgrades than we do for new activation. Usually, RS is the best price in town on a new phone. Check out how much the A650 and the 3200 cost from the verizon store and from Wireless zone. Right now they are only $20 at RS for new customer or upgrade on two year agreement.

Yes... but if you go through Radio Shack and for whatever reason cancel your contract early, you pay not only Verizon's early cancellation fee, but also Radio Shack's as well... which is usually pretty hefty.

Not knocking Radio Shack in any way, just sayin' that there's a downside to 'em.

Where are the Radio Shack's that have the phone? I went to a Radio Shack here in White Plains, New York and they had never heard of it.

Your Radio Shack should be able to tell you where they have them in stock. My local store here in northern CA didn't have any, but with a little prodding they researched the SKU and pulled up a stock listing for all the regional stores. It didn't show any in NoCal, but several stores in the Lake Tahoe / Reno area have them.

RadioShack doesn't charge cancelation fees. All they do is set up the account and sell you the equipment. There are a couple things that radioshacks cant do that corporate stores can, but for the most part, they can do all the same stuff.

heya. What's your opinion on its earpiece volume? Is it decent, better than the v710 and v60s (if you're familiar with those)?

I read the fine print a little closer... apparently if you cancel in the first 120 days, Radio Shack WILL charge you an additional $200 fee on top of Verizon's $175 cancellation fee... but only if you don't return the phone.

Which brings me to another quandry... does that mean then that Radio Shack sometimes sells USED phones?

most RS's concentrate their resources towards new activations. vzw puts a big emphasis on its resellers to get new acts and leave the upgrades and billing issues for the store locations

the rs's that have a more even keel on pricing between upgrade/new usually are a busier location

i'm amazed verizon does it this way with their resellers...as alot of our store locations are banging to the walls busy already...but i guess thats the reason for the rs locations...additional net adds

RS does national pricing on verizon in all its corperate stores. the price in "podunk" is the same as in NY, LA, SF...

any chance you were (or are) able to fire up one of those puppies and let us know how the earpiece volume is. That's my only issue with Motorolas. I only hope it's better than the v60 series (and OF COURSE the v710)????????????????

Ringers aside, I'm really wanting to know about the EARPIECE VOLUME. That's the usual downside of most Motorolas. If you've had a chance to test the earpiece volume, would really appreciate a report. Thanks.

To Godfather1,

I have the 670 from Samsung and it is a wonderful phone. Great clarity and reception on calls. Have not had problems with dropped calls, menu is easy to use and all the features are great. Very reliable phone. Feels very sturdy and fits in pockets well.

However, there are some cons with the 670:

Like the 650, the 670 does get warm/hot when used for a long period of time (I don't know if this is a Samsung problem).

Does not have a speakerphone.

No bluetooth tech.

That's my take on the 670. Don't know too much about the 6100 from LG. But my experience with the LG3200 in the past has been mediocre. LG phones just seem like they're flimsy and ringtones are horrible.

The V265 is a nice looking phone, tho...
