V265 Impression

An area VZW Sales & Merchandising Rep came into the store today, she is doing a Freindly User Trial (FUT) of the V265 & I got a chance to play with it. It seems like a solid phone, doesn't seen as flimsy as a T730. It didn't have the creaks of a T730 either (If you've used a T720/730, you know what I mean). The menus seem to be standard Moto fare & the outside display seemed very legible, even when I held it directly under a bright light. The only downside was the size of the screen, it is very small. I did not try & remove the faceplates or try out the speakerphone. She said it seems to get a better signal than her old T730. The Motorola plastic belt clip/holster does not swivel either. Oh well

Thanks for the impressions. What I'd really like to know is whether the earpiece volume is better/higher than the v710 and even the v60 series. Would really LOVE it if the v265 had earpiece volume closer to the recent LG models. I'm not aware of any Motorolas since the StarTac/Timeport that have had adequate earpiece volume (in my opinion). Any thoughts/impressions?

Sorry, I did not get to make any calls with it. 😕 so I couldn't tell you how loud it is. I played with the ringtones, however. The pre-loaded ringtones actually sounded good to me, the clarity was really good. (only my opinion, please don't blast me for that). All in all, even with the small screen, I will still buy it. It feels solid, has the features I want & it's gonna be priced right.

We got to pass one of these around the store the other day, and I agree with the impression comments. The price may be even better than expected for the holidays. If you can overlook the small screen size, which is probably the big reason for the cheaper cost, then this phone would be perfect. I didn't get to make many calls on it, but the person that brought it in said that she hadn't seen any of the usual new phone bugs after several weeks of testing, so it sounds like this phone is ready to go because she does a lot of these user trials and knows what to look for. The audio quality seems comparable to the V60 series (very good), and the camera actually looks pretty good for a VGA and even better when the pic is sent to a PC. The spea...

Yes, the v265 will be a good seller. Agreed that the small screen is the only downer as it should have a 128x160 display like the v810. If Moto did this to cut costs, its a shame because comparable models in its price-point will have larger screens.

Also, don't know why the holster doesn't swivel. Same thing with the v710 holster. What's that all about? I do remember when the v60 first came out, the holster did not swivel and then it began to ship with the OEM swivel holster.

Earpiece volume level on this phone better (lounder) than the v60 (and v710)? I sure hope so. If only Motorola would offer an earpiece volume comparable to StarTac/Timeport and current LG's. Here's to hoping for the best.

I was told that the holster thing is actually requested by Verizon, so that's why the V710 and V265 holsters don't swivel. They want the one in the box to be cheap, so more people buy a better one. I'm not sure if this is right, but it makes sense since Motorola already has a swivel design to use and the cost can't be too creat since it's all plastic parts.

If this is the case, then shame on Verizon. Hopefully, Moto will sell a swivel version on its site or make one as a stand-alone accessory for Verizon stores. The OEM holsters are great.

I don't know the name of the OEM, but there will be a leather swivel, I'll see if I can find out.

I know it is a small thing, but the swivel on my v60i holster is very useful. Much better than the holster on my old StarTac. If Verizon is trying to save pennies by specifying a cheaper holster, that is a shame. I sure won't be buying their accessories package.

On the other hand, it is one less reason to get the Motorola, and get the LG 6100.

I think instead of a holster, I might get one of these small leather cases:
