Replacing Motorola mpx220 with Audiovox smt 5600

I just called Cingular last night telling them about several issues with my phone. I initially wanted to pay the difference and get a Siemen sx66 but they said its not possible, but they have ONE audiovox smt5600 they would send to me for no charge. They said the mpx220 is on back order and would take 4 weeks for them to ship me one out. I'm sure they will have a better alternative in a week or two because they ran out of the audiovox 5600 as well...

By all accounts the 5600 is a good phone.

I just got a Audiovox SMT5600 from Cingular. The phone isn't bad, but I really wish the volume both from the earpiece and also on the speakerphone were MUCH louder. I called Cingular and mentioned I wasn't happy with the volume and they said I can exchange it for another one, but I am doubtful this will fix the problem. I wish manufacturers would design their units so that normal volume is somewhere around 5 or 6, and that if you increase the volume to 9 or 10 it would be blaring loud. I would really like to compare the 5600 with a Motorola MPx220, but no Cingular stores seem to have it in stock anymore. Has anyone else found the volume to be too quiet?

Had been using a Nokia for 2 yrars and when I first got my MPX220 the volume appeared to be soft until I found out that the "natural/comfortable" placement of the earpiece against my ear was the problem. Had to reposition the earpiece to get decent sound. That solved the problem and took me a while to get used to the new placement. When I give my phone to other people to use I notice that they "can't hear" either until I re-position the phone over their ear. Don't know if this helps.

Wow that's a good deal, I would happily trade my mpx220 for the 5600.

Well, the smt5600 has its own set of issues/problems actually....

Overall, featurewise, the mpx220 still is much better (for me at least - i was using the smt5600 for 2 weeks)...

tri-band as oppose to quad band (world phone)
battery is worst than mpx220
not a clam
screen is bigger
BT sync is not available (if it is, i have not figured it out quite easily as the mpx220)
no flash (even though the mpx220's camera with the flash still sucks, but the flash still helps quite a bit at night - smt5600 none)
enter/toggle button is not the best. mpx220 is one click - no problem...

with the new 1.43 ROM, the mpx220 is a much much more fun phone to have especially with the added features that Moto has added.

So wait for the mpx220 if...

actually I had the 1.43 rom updated on my mpx220 and the 5600 is still better, in my opinion. the camera, even without a flash, is A LOT better than the mpx220, screen bigger is a plus, i haven't noticed a big diff in battery life. the only thing i dont like is the keys. they are small and the joystick is pissin me off. lol other than that the phone is fine. i would take the 5600 over the mpx220 ANYDAY.
