Modem Connection to laptop

I set everything up to connect mpx220 to my laptop and I called Cingular to get the Initialization string. The representative told me I have to sign up for a special laptop option and I CAN'T just pay the $25 for unlimited internet access on my phone and use that. Is this true?

It's not true, unless they just changed something. Here is the initialization string for Cingular: AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR","",0,0

Also, when you create a Dial up connection (on the PC) you'll need this info as well:
phone number = *99#
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

The key thing is to make sure you have the Motorola Modem Link Driver installed, available here.

Finally, here is the detailed directions (in PDF format) from Motorola on getting this going (and the instructions actually work).

I tried all that and when it's trying to connect it gets to 'registering your computer on the network...' then there is an "error 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated." Any Suggestions?

Thanks

This appears to be an error with how the dial-up connection was configured in Windows. See the following Microsoft web page for how to resolve this.

Hmmm... I guess what I would try next is to see if IE on the phone can surf the web. If it can't, then it's an issue with the GPRS settings. If it can, then I'm out of ideas for the moment.

Yes, if you are not on one of the data plans, then by default you are on the "pay per use" plan, which adds up pretty quickly. Here are the various Media Net data plans.
