Is Cingular dropping this phone?

I noticed the other day that the mpx 220 is no longer advertised on the cingular website. They now promote the new BB 7100 & the Samsung 7700 phone, but no 220. Are they getting rid of the phone due to all the problems?

i really hope they don't stop supporting this phone...maybe they've stopped selling it, because they need to fix the problems first

I spoke with the staff at the Cingular store and they indicated the 220 is being discontinued. Moto will introduce the mpx230 shortly which is basically the 220 redesigned with out the bugs. They also have been asked by cingular corperate not to re order this phone to fill up depleted stock. Cingular rep over the phone says they are out of stock.

I tried to buy a MPX 220 today and my local Cingular store did not have them. Said they did not know when they would have them. I called Cingular sales and they said they did not have them and thought they might be discontinued. Phone sales suggested that Cingular may re-introduce the phone once some propblems with the phone get worked out. Cingular did not know when or if this would happen howeveer.

Does anyone know if there is a good picture phone out there that has speakerphone, the display on the front with the picture ID, and is supported by Cingular Wireless and is reasonably affordable? I can't find one ANYWHERE! 😡

Also that records video and an MP3 player. Sounds like a lot, but I want a good phone.

This is totally incorrect. There is no MPX230 - at least for Cingular. This product is being held to ensure that all MPX220 stock upholds the high standard that Cingular is shooting for. Raising the Bar from all aspects.

Since you sound like you are from Cingular, do you know if the new firmware is still on schedule to be available in May, and also, do you know if it will fix the issues that some people are having with the MiniSD cards?

Well, I work directly with Motorola to get this information, and authored what you all are quoting on previous threads. I joined to eliminate any false or mis-quoted info. In my dealings with Motorola, these timelines can go either way - on time, or late. We are keeping our fingers crossed - but I beleive they will make it on time.

I have not heard of any problems with the SD cards. Care to enlighten me?

A lot of people (myself included) have had issues with the MiniSD cards since upgrading to the 1.3 firmware. It worked flawlessly on the original .325 version. The problem seems to be most common with the Sandisk 256MB cards. Basically what happens is that intermittantly the MPx220 will not see the files on the MiniSD. Usually when this happens, if you go into File Manager and keep selecting Storage Card, eventually the files will show up again.

This phone is dropped by Cingular and it will not be back. But there will be more windows mobile products from Cingular and Motorola. there will be another MPX or something like it but the MPX 220 is gone.

I have been told by the manager of a Corporate Cingular store that the phones were recalled because of known problems and they do not sell them. Unfortunately because Cingular has a very screwed up distribution system most Cingular stores are privately owned and this did not apply to them (or Best Buy where I unfortunately purchased 2 of them) Now Cingular acts like they aren't aware of any reoccurring problems with this phone and will only send recon'd phones that have the same problems
