we were informed that, periodically, the lines would go down d/t tower upgrades and "linking" the AT&T towers together. We had basically no towers for Cingular in this area until they merged.

My phone is the same. I usually get hardly any bars while my friends have full bars (they have cingular and sprint). But in my area, we have cingular everywhere so its not a matter of towers. But at random times, (in areas I wouldnt even use my phone) Ill have full bars while my friends have none but it doesnt hapen much. My brothers LG (not sure the exact model) gets a LOT better signal than mine does. Whenever I have no bars, he has full signal. I thought this phone was to be a Good phone as reception wise?

I love the signal, it's great in my area. I'm usually the one with more bars than others. I saw the watts for output on it, got 2.2 per say the cingular report. Not bad! But everyone's got their own location problems I just lucked out I guess 🙂

You can get a report on your watts for output? how? I guess it is just my location, mainly because most of the people who have full bars have sprint, and they dont run on gsm right?

I'm in Atlanta also... 😉

For the last 9 months, I have suffered similar signal issues using the ATT/Cingular TREO600. The TREO worked great if you were outside of Atlanta or overseas in Europe. I thought we had spotty coverage as well until I forced myself onto the CINGULAR WIRELESS network instead of the regualr ATT one... On the Cingular network, my coverage is WAY better. Today I received my MPX220. Coverage is WAY better, telling me the TREO is just a poor phone. ATT network is good, but the Cingular Wireless on is even better. I woudl try forcing your phone to the network that displays as CINGULAR WIRELESS and not the one that shows simply as "Cingular."

BTW, my reference point is based on being on the Northside, ou...

How do you force your phone to the different network? I'm in the Snellville & Loganville Area. and my coverage is so so.. Other folks that have Cingular don't have the same problem is me...

On the MPX220:
Select: start/more/settings/phone/networks/ (choose network selection: MANUAL) / then choose menu/select network. Then slect the network you want. I choose "CINGUALR WIRELESS." I also have th optrion to choose AT&T Wireless (aka "Cingular") and T-Mobile.

On the TREO 600:
From the main screen (phone or wallpaper) select: the menu button/options/select network/(it will search for all available networks)/make sure you have "search bands" set to AUTO/in the window, you will see Cingular, Cingular Wireless and T-Mobile (you may see ATT Wireless or AWS also). The network I sleect is CINGULAR WIRELESS. Right now I have 4 bars. If I switch to "Cingular" i have only 2 bars. I have tried to connect to T-Mobile, but have be...

that doesn't work for me.. on my phone it only gives me an option to swith my bands from auto to 850/1900 to 900/1800 and that's it..

I'm with Cingular right now so maybe that's why??

What you may want to do is turn your phone off and take out the battery so some of the network settings can reset. When you turn it back on, your phone will get a fresh signal and have a new registration with the closest tower. It may be that your phone is wanting to stay with that same tower that is a distance away. I find myself having that problem occasionally... a reboot usually solves the problem for me.

Another think you might wanna try is check your settings for your phone... and make sure the network settings is set on medium. This option will allow the phone to constantly look for a stronger signal. If you are in an area with lack of towers.. you may want to switch that to fast or constant. Though that may drain your batt...

We have both the MPx220 and the Audiovox phone in our home - both also on the Cingular network. We've noticed that we get much better singal from the AT&T tower near our home than from the Cingular tower. Our Audiovox has the ability to switch from "automatic" network to "manual" and then select the tower to connect to, so the Audiovox can be set to receive a better signal. The Moto, on the other hand, cannot be switched from "automatic" so it always prefers the Cingular tower and hence gets worse signal.

Does anyone know of a way to release the lock on the Moto and thus have the ability to manually select a network other than Cingular?

My phone was delivered through ATTWS, SW v0.343. I have the opposite experieince and get a better signal from Cingualr than ATT.

As I noted in my post above, I manually select CINGULAR WIRELESS over the ATT network and my phone does not switch back at all.
