Ok, here are 2 posts all in one new thread:

Brentlitfires is hosting the files for us, lets thank him! Here is what he posted for getting the files:

Everything is now hosted on my site. As far as instructions for use go, those will be coming from another member. I am simply hosting this, I don't even own the phone :-)

You can download files individually or as a single TAR archive. Win32 lusers should be able to open that with WinRAR...i think ;-)

PS. yes we can, winrar will open that, but you don't need all those, you only need three files.

I hope I can help with what you need and what to do. Thanks again for hosting these for the members. There are a bunch of tools and things in there.

No. It enables OPP but not OBEX.

I didn't write that, it was a copy and paste from other's much smarter than I. But I believe the future dial cable might be a usb to serial conversion or something. I know there are some cables that have some form of usb to serial (and maybe back again) which might screw up the flashing.

I'm not sure if that's the reason. But I followed those instructions using the official moto cable.

What does this flash provide that the original software that came with the phone doesn't have?

My phone works fine.
I would like full BT functions but I know I'm not going to get it.
I don't have a transflash card.
I don't take any picts with the phone.

Before I go thru this process can someone explain what the benefits are?

Please don't do it - you risk destroying your battery life and/or hosing your phone's audio quality beyond repair. IMO (having gone through this experience and now having a $350 paperweight) it's not worth it. Just wait and see if Verizon ever releases something on their own, then get it done at a store.

Again, IMO, the benefits (many of which are simply cosmetic, esp. with superdave's work) do not outweigh the risks.

Some people complain about a reduced battery life and poor sound quality. I have personally done 3 of these and they all work great after the SD flash, but YMMV. Here is what I found to "fix" the battery and sound issues (but I haven't seen either of these problems so I can't verify how well this works).

The basic problem people are having with the Verzon official release and the SuperDave version is sound quality for people you are talking to and battery life.

I upgraded to the SD version and everyone complained they could not understand me and battery life was lousy. I then flashed to the verizon version and still no go.

Solution:

Backup phone # etc, from phone.
Flash to new Verizon firmware
Remove battery for 30 seconds

that sounds like it would MURDER the phone lol..and u confirmed that this fixes the battery stuff? But i think a lot of why the battery dies quick after teh flash is that the stupid backlight stays on dimmed while on a call.. that still kills it. thats dumb i think.

I haven't personally verified this. A guy I know on another forum had tried that and said it worked. I took note of the instructions cause I know a lot of friends with these V710's and I have flashed 3 of them already. Luckily I haven't needed to even try this procedure, all my flashes of just SD firmware came out very well. But god forbid I do someone's and they have the problems that some people have reported, I want to have this procedure around to try, just incase.

But if you already have a $350 paper weight, how much worse could this be? From my understanding all this procedure is doing is forcing a BIG reset and clear.

Here is the list of things "fixed" by the flash...

Issues Resolved in Version 01.40.0R
Camera
. Improve still image after megapixel capture. This introduces a slight delay but the decimation is much improved. . Change order of resolution set so that 160x120 Thumbnail is first and 1280x960 High is last
. Improve ability to take complex pictures in highly lit areas with fast changing lighting conditions
. Fix a problem where rapidly opening/closing the flip after taking a picture could cause the handset to soft reset . Increase stability of picture taking. The two items immediately above are examples.

Bluetooth
. The phone and headset should ring during incoming calls
. Allow datebook and phonebook synchronization over Bluetoot...

And when one gets an error mesage.... as in:
"Error flashing subscriber unit error xE0030008 while sending addres OxA840E8"

What does one do then?

and when the same error prevents re-boot, and the phone dies completely and cannot be recognized as an USB device......

Not that I know how to solve this problem but from the articles I read about these phone, the bootloader mode seems promising. I would try something from one of these site (if I had a phone that was messed up):

http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/528734-1.html »

Or the "phone is hosed" section from
http://motov710.blogspot.com/ »

Not saying it would fix your problem, but it's something that I would try if I had problems flashing the phone.

Guys, I am getting the same error as slowsteadystudy, but I redid the steps and I keep getting the same error. Can someone tell me how they solved this problem or point me to what I'm doing wrong?

I reset my phone by removing the battery (for 10 minutes actually... I was disracted), then I started over from the point where the phone is connected to the computer and "turned on."

When I re-attached the phone through the USB connection, it was recognised as an USB modem, even though it seemed to be blank, and showed up in the list on the FLASH program.

I highlighted the phone, and re-flashed... it worked the second time, and now works in my X5, (once I make the X5 blue-tooth aware, and then make the phone look for it...)

Man, I keep trying and it still gives me the error. Instead of pressing the Flash button, I tried the Verify button and it fails also. The error I get is "Error verifying Code Group 0 checksums. File: 0xAB1C, Phone: 0xB263" and "Error verifying Code Group 1 checksums. File: 0xE846, Phone: 0xBBB4". Can somebody tell me what is wrong? Do I have the wrong flash or is the application not working properly. My phone is just a paperweight right now. Thanks.

I am afraid we are way beyond my limits.... I simply played around.....

All I might suggest (what I would do) is to download and un-rar the files again, in case they were corrupted, and ensure that nothing else is running when you flash...

Can anyone point di22y77 at SuperDave... sounds like we need someone who has more of a clue than I...

I am using win2000 and I can flash my phone, no problem, no errors reported. Now I am having issues with the phone sending/receiving calls. A lot of times while calling out the phone will never connect and says call failed. Also, when others call me they say it rings about 4-5 times and goes to voicemail. My phone never even shows I had an incoming call.

When I go to MPT it recognizes my phone but it won't open up the media gallery to upload rings, etc. Do I need a trans flash card to use the SD hack?

I called Verizon to see if they are having problems in the area and they said it sounds like a software issue and I should bring my phone in. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm not sure what to do. I would like to upload rings,...
