I've had my phone since 7/31/04. I'd wait until the second generation. Otherwise, best phone VZW has. If LG had spkr phone, memory card, mp3 capable, and bluetooth, I wldn't hv the moto. LG is much more user friendly and has less bugs, better camera, and the volume is 3x's louder than the v710. But, the v710 most bang for the buck despite it's short comings.

I agree with pete32.

If Lg had the features he mentioned, then I would have stuck with the LG line.

After being on-line in the middle of nowhere with my laptop through BT and using my BT headset there's no way I'm going back (despites it's limitations)!

The speaker phone is fantastic and when I had problems with my 1st v710 because I broke the charging port's hate it) all I had to do was move my ringtones, pics and videos to the TF card.

Normally you'd lose the ringtones and have to go thru the trouble of sending the pis and videos to an email addy.

I'm catching signal with my V710 where my LG6000 would not.

"After being on-line in the middle of nowhere with my laptop through BT"

I thought that wasn't possible yet. Did they to the software update? Sorry, haven't been keeping up. I returned mine to keep my options open since at the time it was rather vague if VZ would even come through with BT phone as modem.

Yes it's possible just not file transfer yet. You heard it wasn't possible from another one of those people complaining about something they have no idea about.

" You heard it wasn't possible from another one of those people complaining about something they have no idea about." (?)

No, I tried to set it up w/BT, recognition was made but a modem error would show up. VZ service connected me to MOT service, then to MOT Software, who told me some osrt of update was in the works to make the phone work as a modem, but not yet, and they couldn't tell me exactly when. They hoped October. I only had another week for my test run, and also the camera was buggy on mine, so i returned it. I figured if they got things ironed with a 2'nd generation I'd go for it then.

Are you saying they did do the update?

Or that there's another method to accomplish the internet connection. With a cable do you mean?

3 btw, I have a Mac so perhaps this issue is just Mac related.

4 I'm hoping MOT comes through because I did basically like the phone, I just expect to get what is advertised.

1 No update needed for this and none available yet that I'm aware of.

2 Possibly, but most definitely possible thru BT (That's how I'm doing it).

3 Haven't tried with a Mac, so that might be a prob

4 I have most of what I wanted out of the phone, but definitly would want the update if it addesses some of my issues ASAP!

PS. BT internet conection is slow but d...

If u don't care about BT or speaker, I would definately get the VX7000. Camera and video is much better, but the V710 can record up to 3min of video if you have a TF card while the LG only does 20secs of video at a time.

I could care less about bluetooth also.
And that doesn't mean I need a different phone. The phone has other features and the look that other phones just don't have

I think the HS120 Is way better than any bluetooth headset.

Despite all the technological marvels, and great RF this phone does not deliver well on some basic phone functionality, such as earpiece volume.

Personally, i'd wait until a revised version is introduced. Or get another phone.

I don't have an earpeice volume problem, it seems like people are having ear problems if you ask me.

$320 is alot for some and a drop in the bucket for others. 🤣 the people who can barley afford it expect alot in return.

Me personally I love the phone, The only problem I am having is the top of the phone scratching when I open it. no big deal.

The reason this phone is getting so much bad reviews is people have nothing to do with there life and they think this phone will work miracles and there is nothing wrong with the cam i mean lg vx7000 had a cam that is a little bit better but who cares it still takes pics that are good.My Opionon get it

You are absolutely right, $320.00 is a lot for a cell in 2004, but I didn't mind spending it However, almost everyone complains about the volume being low in comparison to other cell phones. I had to put the LG VX7000 on it's lowest setting and it was still too loud in most cases. I don't think it's our ears but you trying to justify your spending of $320 by pretending there isn't a problem with the volume on this phone. Which I'm sure that's why you mentioned the price of the phone when no one else did. I can understand if you had to use your entire paycheck to purchase the phone. I would say all good things too if I were you.

I said the price is a problem for some and A DROP IN THE BUCKET FOR OTHERS thats why they complain. I DO NOT have a volume problem.

And I don't think $320 is alot for a phone in 2004 especially one with as many features.

And I didn't spend my whole paycheck on the phone just a couple hours of easy work at home in front of my computer.

The phone is getting bad reviews because it is a product that promises much, but most of the promises end up as failures. Seldom does a product get released that has features which perform at roughly 50% of their goal. See my review on August 22, 2004 on this site.

The V710 is NOT worth the money. I would suggest the LG VX-7000 or Samsung SCH-A670; either phone is worth the money.

Also, check out PC Magazine's review on August 26, 2004. They had much to say which agreed with what I had found: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1639783, 00.asp

Well I see you are back with more of the SOS that you like to spread!

My V710 is a great phone, not perfect but a great phone. Everything works as indicated and I have no problems with it to date. All I want now is the extended battery and back cover!

Question...

What is the difference between GLOBAL ONE and a catfish?

One is a bottom dwelling scum sucker and the other is a good eating fish!

This is a great phone. The volume fix worked perfectly for me and the speakerphone is awesome. I don't care about the camera. I am using the Web Browser independently of Verizon and it works well. I am using minutes, but prefer that to paying Verizon $5 per month. I bought the phone for it's bluetooth connection to my Acura TL and apart from no signal strength indicator and a delay in answering, it's great!. Wait for the software upgrade and you'll have the best phone on the market. Forget the stupid comments from those complaining about the camera quality, it's a PHONE !!!!!

Contrary to some individuals, whose quality standards are highly suspect, nobody should pay top dollar for "JUST A PHONE!". As I have previously stated, I left VZW after 8 years, because my expectations that the highly touted V710 would be another quality StarTac were definitely not realized; it is not even close! The v710 is flimsy junk! The keypad with the peeling plastic numbers and the PLASTIC shell is warning enough. Do NOT confuse the good RECEPTION with phone quality. That is VZW's strong point, which has been harmed by their profit motive crippling of BT; supposedly a major feature (other than the headset).

If you really want a great phone with all the latest MultiMedia features, high quality construction, and excellent reception...

A Great Phone, Tied Down
Arik Hesseldahl, 09.13.04, 10:00 AM ET

NEW YORK - When it comes to selecting a wireless phone for myself to use, I have in the past been a bit of a neo-Luddite.

Sure, as part of this job I get to play with all the very latest and greatest that manufacturers like Motorola (nyse: MOT - news - people ) and Nokia (nyse: NOK - news - people ) and Research In Motion (nasdaq: RIMM - news - people ), among others, have to offer, what with their cameras, and video recording capabilities.

Personally I'd wait and see which carrier offers the best package first. If Verizon fixes the Bluetooth then go with Verizon. If another carrier offers a similar phone with all the features working (aka: 7610, s700i, mpx220) then go with them. Unless you spend most of your time in the sticks then you'll get good coverage no matter what carrier you go with. It's your money, get what you want!

IF Verizon fixes the bluetooth...

It *NEVER* should have been broken in the first place... Verizon deserves to lose a lot of business for that!
