why do the mp3s have to be converted to midis? the phnoe plays mp3s...

I'm talking about using them for ringtones. This has been the only way I could get them to play as ringtones is converting them. As for playing them as songs, you only get about 30 seconds worth of the song, which is perfect for a ringtone.

I thought we could use MP3s as ringtones!!! wtf!!!

mp3s can be played on the phone but in order to use them as ringtones you need to change the extension to .mid and 30 secs is a good length for ringtone

OK, here's how I do it..
1.) save the MP3 to a folder on your desktop.
2.)open the folder
3.)Go to Tools/Folder Options/View
4.)Uncheck the box labeled "Hide Extensions for unknown file types"
5.)Apply the change
6.)Now you can right click on the saved MP3 and choose the "Rename" option.
7.)delete the .mp3 extension and change it to .mid
8.)E-mail the mp3/mid file to your phone at yournumber@vzwpix.com (Once you have created an account with Verizon at http://www.vzwpix.com/mlib/index.jsp

This works and has worked many times for me, and like I said, the good thing about Wal-Mart.com is that the sample songs are already 30 second cuts so no editing is needed.

after I rename the file to mid form mp3 the file will not play. Any clues what i am doing wrong

will not paly where? - on your phone or your PC? The instructions that I posted is exactly how I do it and I have send myself numerous mp3 ringtones. I have read some other posts about only certain e-mail providers allowing the attachment to stay on the e-mail. I used earthlink.

Yes I do have the TF card - I just don't have the SD reader yet ☹️

Where did you get your TF card at? Also, how are you saving those walmart clips? Thanks.

I got my TF card through Amazon before the phone was released. And as far as saving the walmart clips -
1.just right-click on the song title
2.Choose "save target as"
3.choose a folder somewhere on your PC
4.Convert it & send it to cellphone

so wait...? if i upload the wal-mart clip into my transflash- will i be able to, from the card, set the clip as my ringtone.

Please let me know, i've been browsing online these last two days making sure before i drop money on a transflash card.

You absolutely DO NOT have to convert them. Copy straight to transflash, then copy or move to phone ... and you're good to go.

so all you need is the transflash card?

still trying to get the tones on my phone. vzw stated that it was successfully sent but i got no message on my phone. do i need transflash card or can it be sent to the phone without it

You do not need a transflash card to do this.

please help. i've tried the walmart thing it was saved on desktop and sent to vzw as mp3 and mid. it said that it was sent to my phone but i got no message what am i doing wrong i don't have transflash but i don't think i need it

Would someone please answer this question??? AGAIN. I send the mid file from vzxpix.com and all I get is a text message saying I have a new pic file, go to vzwpix.com to view! I even followed the tutorial on the site and did it step by step. I have run up $5 in text messages and I still haven't gotten 1 stinkin ring tone to my phone. What are we doing wrong???

use your email client to send the message..ie outlook, etc..that works a lot better than using the web based site at verizon

Pardon me, but I may be a little slow. ;) I've tried yahoo, outlook, and vzwpix. Still all I can get on the phone is a confirmation that a message was received, but neither the mid file nor the text show up. The message gives the option to download, but when I try it, it says "unable to download. Try again later." Where have I gone wrong?

1. download .mp3 clip from walmart.com (or the like)
2. rename file to .midi
3. launch outlook (or email client)
4. attach .midi to message
5. type a subject and line of txt in the body
6. email to (your phone #)@vzwpix.com
7. save attachment as ringtone or to phone when message arrives

*you may not have to type anything in the body of the message, i just do to be safe as someone else on the forum said

hey, im havin a problem too....i send it and receive it ....but when i try to play the msond it says file type not recognized....should u change it to .mid or .midi....i changed it to .mid and then it changes it to .midi.

i just straight up renamed it to a .midi and it worked for me

Hate to be redundant, but you change ".mp3" to ".mid" or ".midi"?

others on this forum say change it to .mid, but i change it to .midi and it works perfect..when i changed to .mid it did not

did you try playing the .midi on your pc first to make sure it works?

yep, it works (both as mid and midi).

when you receive the message, is the attachment at the bottom? it just won't let you play or save it? or is the message corrupt when you get it?

no attachment at the bottom. no text that i typed in the email is in the message either. there's only the option to "download" with the right 'soft' key.

does it arrive as a text message at least?that's odd you're receiving it in that format if you're sending it to xxxx@vzwpix.com

it arrives in the Inbox. it says who it's from, what the subject is, the size, when it expires, and when it was received. That's it.

weird, mine arrives like an email: from, to, subject, attachments..no size or expire

guess i'll have to call verizon and see if it's a problem on their end.

Agreed! I have had a 128MB card on order for 10 days from ecost for $32, BUT no one has the 128 MB card in stock - NOBODY!

The E-Mail method is a temporary way to get the MP3 ringers to your phone while waiting on the transflash.

OK IF YOU HAVE THE FILE, HERES THE HUGE MISTAKE I MADE.. YOU HAVE TO WRITE SOMETHING IN THE SUBJECT, AND BODY OF THE EMAIL AFTER ATTACHING THE *.MID FILE.. OTHERWISE DO THE FOLLOWING BELOW:

1. Go to walmart.com
2. Download the song by right clicking on it, and saving it on your hard drive
3. Rename the file to *.mid
4. Email the file to yourself making SURE that you WRITE something in the message
5. Once you receive the file, save the mid file as either a Ringtone or Midi. I saved as both.

If you save it as a ringtone, in sounds it will just show up as the filename with *.midi.

If you save the file as a File, it will be under sounds as a *.midi.

With the transflash card, do we need to shorten the songs and change them to a different file type if we want to store them as ringtones? If so, could you please show me how to do it? Thanks

how large is the file. the largest I've sent is 280 kb.

Hello. I followed all your instructions, and When it gets to my phone it says attachment dropped: of type:application/octet-stream;name="bd.mid.ur l">

Any help would be appreciated....also when clicking on the button that gives opitions to delete/reply/forward/lock/save items/etc. When I hit save it than says save what? file or address when hit file it than says file not recognised.

It should be '.midi' not '.mid'

not true - when I rename mine - I just change it to ".mid". Now - when I recieve it on my phone it is displayed as an ".midi", but I rename it to an .mid file

is anyone else having problems recieving pic messages or songs. the tech told me that the server for pix was down and he didn't know when it would be back up. i can't get songs or pics to my phone

i have done the walmart thing several times and i know i can read directions so the server must be down. i can send pix to another phone but can't get them. when i go to vzw and follow the directions it says send success but i never get the message to my phone.

Where are you trying? I can't get the walmart thing to work here in NY (Long Island) - I think it's due to a "server problem", whatever that means.

hmmmm - I don't get it. Than is exactly how I got mine - and they worked. I recieved 2 attachments, one text and the other .midi. I highlighted the .midi and palyed it. while it was playing I stored it to my transflash...... MAN - I don't know... Do you even get the .midi attachment?

Yes I got the attachment I highlight it and press play it says system error
when i highlight it and try to save it on my phone same error message pops up

man - that blows. I would maybe try *611 or CS. I can try to send you some more - but being that that one didn't work I don't want you to keep getting charged for them.

I only save it to the transflash card because I have that option - before I had it - I would just save them to the phone memory. So I don't think that is the prob. sorry man - I would still try CS

I tried both and both times it opens and says attachment dropped .midi/.mid and the attachment is .txt

ok - it's sent. It is "Hey Ya" by Outkast. Let me know if & when you get it and if it works. You should get a txt. file as well as an .midi file. highlight the .midi and play it.

if you get one send it to me too. but i think the server might be down. the tech stated that he didn't know when it would be back up so they credited me a measly 60 cent for the week that it has been down.

this is pissing me off because the only reason i bought the phone was to use the pix and mp3 features. call 611 and find out if the server is really down

How do u rename them to .mid from .midi on your phone? It just says save item and when you click that it says file type not recognized or something like that.

what size is the file you are sending yourself? is it one from wal-mart.com? Before you changed the extension did you change the way you view the files? Like when you open the folder that your song is stored in you go into Tools/Folder Options/Veiw - then un-check "Hide extensions for known file types"

This same process works fine using pixplace emailing technique when I tried from an email program it did not receive right and changed the .mid into a .midi and the phone did recognize the .midi file type. You just gotta remember that you add a subject and a msg in the txt msg and make sure the file is under 350 kb and it should work fine.
