V710 Vs. Samsung a670

BUCKBALL

Aug 9, 2004, 2:13 PM
Picked up the V710 from RS last Tuesday and so far can't complain. Went with my girlfriend to VZW on Saturday and she picked up the Samsung a670. Besides Bluetooth and Transflash card, are there any differences in the two phones?

With only playing with hers for a few minutes I enjoyed hers much more, not to mention the phone is alot smaller and the external photo id display is ten times better.

Any thoughts or comments?

the phones should have been free after NE2 and mail in rebate. You can check on verizonwireless.com to verify.

The 670 phone does record 15 seconds of video. One of my friends has it at work. Not sure where you got your info from.

Hi, I picked the Samsung a670 two months ago when I ported my number over from Cingular, and I am extremely pleased with the phone. (There is a glitch in the software regarding the incoming call log that others have pointed out on the Samsung forum, but that doesn't bother me too much.) The biggest difference, though, between the v710 and this particular Samsung, besides the ones that you mentioned, is that the v710 is a tri-mode phone, meaning that it will work in areas where there is only an analog signal available. I'll admit that this difference alone is making me contemplate getting the v710 -- but something tells me I may take a pass on it for now and stick with the Samsung. It's size, ease-of-use, and excellent reception (in digit...

May want to read this article about all digital (a670) vs. digital & analog (v710) phones

Wireless Carriers Leave
Many Callers in Dead Zone

Fancy Digital Handsets
Come With Coverage Gaps
In Busy Cities, Rural Areas
By MARLON A. WALKER and JESSE DRUCKER
Staff Reporters of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
August 9, 2004; Page A1

U.S. cellular carriers are aggressively promoting a new generation of phones that have everything from built-in cameras to Web surfing. But there's another, less-welcome wrinkle to the latest phones: Many are missing their old analog gear, and that can make it harder to place and receive calls in many areas.

As wireless carriers make the transition from analog to digital net...

Thought I should chime in on this...keep in mind when reading these articles that most of the data they use to compare "digital" phones to amps phones is actually comparing figures gathered from GSM phones and not TDMA or CDMA as they are represented in the articles. If you reference the figures they refer to as digital it turns out the study was on GSM versus analog, Also some of the companies that print these articles are holders of companies that are heavily based in older wireless technology like Forbes, AT&T, and others.

PS...I tried both phones and returned the V710 for the A670 and I am much more pleased with the A670 (even though I was in love with my old V300)

I keep asking myself, do I want this phone w/all the reputed "bugs"? I don't really want a camera. The mp3 player might or might not suck depending on who you believe.

But if you want a speaker, want trimode, want a nice size screen, (and wouldnt mind Bluetooth)there aint nothin else w/VZ.
