V710 and Palm Tungsten T3 question

Jul 29, 2004, 3:33 PM
Just picked up my 710 today, and can't get it to connect to my T3. Anyone know how to get this to work, or how to update the settings on the Palm?

The Palm site does not mention a way to update the Palm to work with newer phones.

You might need to wait for drivers for the palm to come out to use it as a modem. I have a T3 too, but I can't answer it better til I get my phone.

I've got a T|3 and no idea how these two goodies are going to interact, BUT...

I just checked out Palm's site and the only thing I saw was this:
http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/phonelin ... »

Check out the "note" area, about halfway down the page in the middle (from left to right)...

"Palm Tungsten T, T2 and T3 handheld users running Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP can also update these items using the Phone Link Updater application installed on their PC. This application can be found in the Communications section of the Software Essentials CD that was included with the Palm Tungsten T, T2 and T3."

Meanwhile, I just tried the Phone Link Updater incl. with my T|3, which is only aboot 60 days old, and sho'nuff, the 710 isn't ...

This is string #2 re: v710 + T3. Glad (I guess) to see that I'm not the only one with a problem.

Search this forum on "bluetooth" and you'll see that there are quite a few issues with BT in general with the v710. The #1 reason I bought the v710 was connectivity via BT to my T3 and my pc. I've tried all the available drivers from phone link update, tried monkeying around with the init string in each scenario, with no luck.

I talked to Palm tech support earlier today. The rep indicated that palm has not received the BT drivers for the v600, let alone the v710. In another string on this forum, the feeling is that file transfers to/from pc or palm will not be possible until a software update is released for the v710. This is KILLING ...

I have a T3 and just got my V710 yesterday. I had them mated and working in just a few minutes. Full dialing from the contacts list, Versa Mail and Web Pro. It's awesome! 😁

Make sure that BT is turned on both the phone and Palm, then connect away.

My settings on Palm:
Phone Link/Phone Setup/Phone Connection/Bluetooth to Motorola

Prefs/Bluetooth/Trusted Devices/Add Device - search for device...find phone

Prefs/Phone/Connection/ 'Motorola Phone'

Prefs/Connection choose 'Motorola Phone'

Prefs/Network/Service/Dialup Connection - I'm using this for now until I get Verizon Web activated

It Does Work! Hope this helps. EC

Okay, I must be doing something wrong because I can't share any data between the two. When I dial from the contacts list, the phone begins the call then hangs up with BT disconnects.

Also, can you confirm Prefs/Network/Service/Dialup Connection? "Dialup Connection" is not an option listed under "service" in Preferences -> network.

Can you populate your phone book on the v710 using BT??

I am having the same problem.

I can connect the T3 to the phone, it will dial, but then disconnects after one ring. (This is when dialing from the contacts list or the phone dialer)

Also tried web pro. The palm will connect to the phone, it dials out to my ISP, connects... and then nothing ever happens. After a long while, an error message pops up about the connection.

Anyone get past this problem, what am I doing wrong?

You're doing nothing wrong, the V710 doesn't have OBEX (data transfer) support. There are various other posts (mine included) that speak of a firmware update coming in mid-August that *hopefully* will fix this.

I'll add that software support at Moto has indicated to me that there is "no guarantee" that object push will me available in the firmware update, which is scheduled for release on 8/16.

I asked point blank, "Will my PDA and Phone Tools be able to work with the phone with the firmware upgrade?" They answered, "Yes."

Even though it was level one support shipped to a call center in India, this guy sounded like he had more knowledge then past rep's I've spoken to. He knew what OBEX was (he finished my sentence with, "...that will support file transfer.") So, there's hope.

I called Verizon Wireless tech support and they changed the settings in my PALM T3 and I am now able to use my phone to connect to Verizon's slowest web access (14.4k) using #777 as the dialup number. call Verizon at 866-892-2357. No extra charge to use this service, just counts against minutes.

I have my Tungsten T3 using Verizon's Express Network 140K through Bluetooth to my V710. If you have Express Network on your account all you need to do is go to Prefs->Network->New. Type "Verizon Wireless" or whatever name you want and put YOURMOBILENUMBER@vz23g.com in the User Name field and the password is vzw. I used the "BT to Motor. TP280i" for connection and #777 for the phone number. Click Done. Now you can connect to the web at bursable speeds reaching 140K.

As for the Phone Tools, I cannot get the phone to accept the "dial" command from the Tungsten T3. I get a message about the phone not supporting this feature (I would give you the exact message but I'm on hold with Verizon to find out the definitive answer on the firmware u...

Hey, I finally got my connection between my V710 and my T3. The trouble is, that when I try to use webpro, I get an eror message after it dials the phone and when I try to use the dialer it rings once and then hangs up. It also curiosly on the phone says 14.4k??

How do I actually use the connection between my verizon service and my T3 to browse the web and check my email and how do I make the dialer work and not hang up?

I've gotten it to do everything except for the phone dialer. I'm using the Mot TP820i I think as the phone.

It does work with the existing software on the T3. The first thing I did was set it up with my T3. Click phone link on "phone link", in phone connection choose "Bluetooth To Motorola" under Manufacture, "Motorola" obviously, for model pick "TP280i" not "Not Shown". It still recognizes the phone. The only thing I have been able to do is dial phone numbers from my T3. And you cant use your Bluetooth head set at the same time, you would have to plug in a wired head set. Oh yeah, one last thing. Before you click to find "Bluetooth Device" on you T3 you must go to connection on your V710 menu in setting, click Bluetooth link, set up, and find me, the phone will be discoverable for 60 seconds. Good luck.
