Why?

My Sprint phone just died and my work is going to get me a Verizon phone, so I've been reading about the bluetooth enabled 710.

My question is... what are the motivations of the rabid fans of this upcoming phone? Why do you want it so bad? What do you plan to do with it? Is it the bluetooth that is the killer feature? If so, is it just for a wireless headset? The camera? How do you plan to use this phone? What is it giving you that another model isn't?

I'd love to hear your answers.

Let's face it: most of the people on the internet searching Phonescoop.com are geeks that love to have the latest thing in mobile phones. Hence, they lose their load when something new is on the horizon, and they have to have it before anyone else, mainly to establish their supreme geekdom to the fellow geeks in their social support network.

There is nothing that special about the phone that won't be available on 10 phones in 6 months.

Well, for one thing, 10 phones may be available like that in six months, but only one Verizon phone will be like this one. If you got another cellular provider, it doesn't matter. But if you are with Verizon, unless you are willing to switch providers, this will be it for a while.

Also, six months from now isn't NOW. Some of us have been doing nothing but waiting. All the interesting phones, like the MPX 220, the MPX PocketPC flip phone and the HP iPaq 6300 PPC phone have been nothing but vaporware, beset by constant delays. We are sick of reading about the new phones and actually want to start seeing them in our hands.

Well now...all I've ever wanted was a clamshell phone with bluetooth that works on Verizon's 1x network. nothing about "latest and greatest", or "before anyone else" - I just want the bare minimum of my data requirements, and I've waited a long time to get it. In the meantime I've used a lot of crappy alternatives - the 270C, the t61c, and the T608 - though thankfully I never had to sacrifice coverage with those options, just wacky implementations and terrible battery life.

In fact, I don't want MP3 ringtones, and I most certainly don't want a stupid camera on my cellular phone...but if this is the only choice I have, so be it. The phone could be lime green with Yu Gi Oh pictures plastered all over the case and Hello Kitty ringtones and I...

The bluetooth is a key feature. But it's the whole package. It's got a 1 megapixel camera, it's got a full duplex speakerphone, it's got a memory slot and it's got built in voice dialing. And not that lame vocie dailing that you have to train each phonebook entry by yourself. It's speaker-independent voice dialing, no trainig required. It can also do individual by the number dialing too.

Usually, phones this loaded only are the domain of GSM. But the fact that a CDMA provider like Verizon is offering it makes it very sweet.

Don't forget that it is also TRI-MODE. The phone's analog capability is a big plus for lots of people.

True, forgot aboutthat one. For a non-PDA phone, the v710 is as good as it gets for now.
