Sort Of Off Topic - Free iPod to Complement your v710

Mr. Moon

Jul 26, 2004, 9:41 AM
😉

Not exactly on topic, but since we're all tech junkies it seems, I thought you'd be interested in this. Not spam. I've been here a few weeks reading and posting and you guys know that. You might've already heard about it, but the free iPods?

Use this link to sign up: http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer =7378179

You basically just have to get 5 people to sign up for these stupid trial offers. No pyramid scheme. Just 5 people.

Sign up for the AOL Broadband trial. You will need a credit card. Cancel after about 10 days and you get credited for your iPod.

With the amount of people we have on here, we could all help each other out and get free iPods.

The weird thing is, it's totally legit. Google it. People al...

Aren't these scams illegal. Pyrymid schemes or something...
...
Mr. Moon

Jul 26, 2004, 10:13 AM
...yeah, but it's not really a pyramid.

You getting an iPod is completely independent of what the 5 below you do. All you need to do is get 5 to sign up. How many people those 5 get is totally irrelevant. They can get 0 each and you still get an iPod. It's a very very short pyramid.

For those flaming it, fine. But do some research before you scoff it off. I'm not forcing you to do anything, but it is a free $300.

Aside from the legality, if it's that simple to sign up, get five other morons to sign up, and then for all six of you to simply untangle yourselves from all the bull$hit that would come from a "not really a pyramid" pyramid, it'd be wonderful. But, if life were that easy, I wouldn't get 4,000 pieces of spam from that one time I signed up for more info at a PC Expo at the Javitz Center. And/or the "unsubscribe" link would actually work.

Thanks, I think I'll get my next iPod the same way everyone else does...I'll have my wife buy it for me 😉

I'll have my wife buy it for me

:lol

Nothing wrong with that approach.

Even though there's been no positive posts here, I've already gotten about 8 signups in 10 minutes, so you guys can stop using my link if you want. Please post yours and we can help each other out.

are you notified when you get another signup? Dont 5 of those 8 people need to actually sign up for one of those 7 choices (aol broadband, ebay etc..)

the part Im confused about is there is 2 signups.

1. you sign up at freeipod.com
2. you have to sign up for one of those 7 choices.

does your 5 refered people have to sign up for part 2? or does that not matter?

thanks

Yes they do..again, can sign up and cancel in a day, no cost etc...just use a free email account or you will get a bunch of spam thats the only downside..

Make sure it's more than a day. It takes 3-5 for the signup to verify with freeiPods.com, so cancelling after 1 day makes your referral worthless.

thanks

I believe it's only for new accounts. Why not use the AOL one? It's a reputable company and can be cancelled easily.

The easiest is the Ebay one. Make a new account, and bid on a test auction for one cent. You might be able to get away with an Ipod for 5 cents. (P.S. - If you read the terms and conditions, they give you a REFURBISHED Ipod, Plus they can take their sweet time sending it to you, (10 days for each sign up to clear, 90 days to send the Ipod. 5 months later, you get your iPod.) I'd rather use my Student discount at Apple (I think it's 7% off 🙂 ) and get a 20 GB when the price goes down a little.

PLUS, it is IMPOSSIBLE to cancel all the spam you get. Because, once again, if you read the Terms, you can unsubscribe from the spam, but the next time you login, you're re-subscribed. Even when I un-subscribed and never logged in again, I still got...

How many refurbished 20 GB iPods can there be? They're using 4th gens, which are brand new. I don't expect the site to last much longer, but if I do get an iPod, cool.

I can guarantee with 99.9% certainty that you're not getting an iPod - but will be getting a whole lot of SPAM.

Goto the "Terms and Conditions" link:
http://www.freeipods.com/Terms.aspx »

It's one of the funniest list of terms and conditions I've ever seen. Some notable points in the Terms: (I'm going to paraphrase b/c it's listed in verbose legal-speak... although it's very easy to understand - so I recommend actually reading it for a good laugh)

- We are not required to send you an iPOD, and we don't guarantee we will - even if you meet all the conditions and hold up your end of the deal.

- We can change the rules of the deal at any time (like if somebody actually meets our ridiculous requirements - we reserve the right to ...

kgray:

I agree fully...I just didn't bother going through the terms and conditions with the people who actually buy into this horse manure (but the run-down is pretty standard: 'we harvest a huge e-mail list and you take one in the tush, as per usual'). Either the adage is "Spam and stupidity make the world go around" or, as Pete Townshend wrote, "No one respects the flame quite like the fool who's badly burned."

I wonder how many of the link-clickers are going to enjoy getting their AOL mail and buying a (real, genuine) Rolex from a guy on the street wearing a pair of 80's-era hightops. Oh well. Caveat emptor is a oft-ignored suggestion, but this is yet another incident that demonstrates that ignorance is truly bliss.

Yeah, if you're dumb enough to use an email address you use, you deserve to get an assload of spam. That's what free email accounts are for. I made a new one just for this thing.

It's taken about 30 minutes of my life to signup, send out an email to friends and sign up for my "offer". If I don't get an iPod, no big deal. If I do, great. It's not some long, drawn out process that I had to put a lot of effort into.

LOL...that's why "spam" is still a lucrative business...80% of spam lists are disposable addresses, but the 20% keep the whole cycle going. And while I don't really have a problem with you offering other people free iPods (or hopes and dreams, or the Brooklyn Bridge for a small fee, or snake oil, or bigger penises) here, it's that this is not one isolated incident...across the net, there is another person spamvertising a free iPod or penis enlargement or a happy life or a fourteen-year-old russian girl named Svenga McCheeba and it insures pop-ups, spam and delays are a part of the "Internet experience." You'll prolly respond that your slowing down to see the accident on the other side of the road doesn't have any effect on anyone but you, bu...

Right Carlos - That's why I posted my initial response to this ridiculous offer - we're on the same page.

Mr. Moon - all kidding aside from my first post, I am aware you probably didn't use your real e-mail address, are expecting to get SPAMmed to death on the one you did use, and aren't really expecting an iPOD - but I was making a more important point then telling you to watch out. In the end - we have both spent 30 minutes on this topic (now 40 for me) - but your 30 minutes resulted in you signing up for(thus perpetuating these scams through participation) as well as mentioning on a message board (thus promoting through advertising) what we should all be trying to stop.

1. Had 4 people before I posted here. Just signed up this morning and would've gotten my 5 easily by this afternoon just with my friends signing up.

2. Random forum? I've been browsing this for a month waiting for the phone. I had no clue there even was a general forum.

3. In that month, I saw a lot of great..err..useless posts. I felt this was a helpful one at least.

I'm not denying it's in the wrong forum and I wouldn't have put it here had I known there was a "Lounge". The style of this board doesn't make that information very accessible. To my knowledge, I just assumed each phone had a forum and that was it. I'm sorry if you've been offended by me offering up a nice item. Take it easy.

how about this:

one of the items is to sign up for an ebay account, and make a bid?? you dont even have to win the item, but just as long as you make a bid, that counts.

anyone know what could be bad about this? ;)

Mr. Moon

Jul 26, 2004, 10:11 AM
That totally works. The only catch is you have to be a high bidder at some point. So bid on something that you can win, but will be outbid on later.

I'm no idiot too. These things suck and I saw it a few weeks ago, but didn't feel like getting bent over, but I've changed my mind after doing some research.

It sounds so great! Almost too good to be true! Everybody, quick, lets get rich!

And, while you are enjoying your new ipod, be sure and come to the first cellphone forum you can find and tell us all about it. I know we'd all LOVE to hear about it.

If we took the posts that are actually about the V710 from this forum and put them in a new forum called "the new V710 forum", we'd have an 1/8th of the pages we have now.

Agreed. I wonder why we non techno-phobes all have a similar reaction to someone telling us "Do this, sign this, and then you get this -- for free!!!!!" You might as well just bend over and drop your drawers and get it over with.

Or, as they say in France, drop-kick me Jesus through the goal-posts of life.

This isn't a scam. My friend already received an iPod Mini from this company. He said it was shipped directly from Apple.

I figured I would try it out. Of course, I used a free e-mail address, because I figured the downside would be spam. If any fellow v710 fanatic (I've been here since May) would like to sign up since the OP has enough now,

I did it and if anyone else wants to try it you can here:

Just make sure you don't try to cheat the system. They are sticklers about this. They really want to have people fake it so that they can hold your account and not have you receive a free Ipod. (ONE ADDRESS ONLY... NO ROOMMATES WITH SAME ADDRESS!) Sign up for the Ebay account if you don't already have an account. It's free and it's easy. You just have to make an bid. You don't even have to be the winner.
