Motorola V710
question about upgrade
Under Contract = Full Retail
Out of Contract = Discounted Prices
In some instances you may qualify for NE2. In order to qualify, you must have fulfilled a 2 yr contract (not just had the service for 2 years), had been on a pplan of $35 or higher, and sign up for a new 2 yr contract extension. THEN, you will receive a free phone, or a $100 credit toward the price of a more expensive phone. Mail in rebates apply in most cases, as part of your credit.
Example:
Samsung A650 is 79.99 w/$50 MIR = $29.99
The representative would charge $79.99 and discount it by $29.99, leaving a remaining balance of $50 owed in which the customer would submit in the form of rebate to receive the compensati...

I will not be eligible to upgrade from my phone on my current 2 year contract (at the earliest) until December. Now, I thought I was told a while ago that if I went and signed a new two year contact and upgraded my service to a plan over $49.99, that I might be able to get out of my current agreement. Is this possible?
You would think that Verizon would work a deal if there was more money to be made.

I am in this same exact situation as Dave. I currently have the 4400 and I also heard that if you upgrade to pix messaging then you can get the 2 year price, etc. Anyone know???
Unfortunately, I can tell you with certainty that without being at the end of your contract (within 2-4 months of the end date) that you would be charged the full retail price. Verizon will only allow an upgrade under those circumstances. And with regard to reasoning, let me explain it this way: When you sign your initial 2 yr agreement you get a HUGE discount (ex. retail=$359.99, 2yr=129.99). VZW can't give out a discount like that more than once per contract term and make any kind of a profit (we are a busin...

Well, make sure you are up on your policies there pal. First, I have never heard of being able to renew your plan with any more than 2 months left on a customers contract. You do realize that if you renew someone over 62 days out that you do not get paid on that sale, right?
I imagine you're likely a customer care rep or an indirect dealer. Recently, in my sales channel, they announced that customers can be approved for an upgrade with 4 months of the end of contract. And I'm well aware of the 62 day rule & how I'm paid thanks. And just since we're on the topic, that early upgrade policy you mentioned is only applied in certain situations and is not done in direct sales channels. Maybe you should check < >...

This is done in direct channels every day, as that is where I work here in my corporate store. Here's why - If you were a customer, 1 year into your plan, and then we launch a video phone, do you think VZW would rather lose a few bucks to keep you as a customer by selling the phone at 2 year price, or have you cancel & go to Sprint? We both know the $175 etf + a deeply discounted Sprint phone is going to be less than the $349.99 full retail price of the current video phone. It was the same deal when the camera phones launched last year. If I may ask (politely, I might add), what region/channel are you from?
I'm in complete agreement with you about the early upgrade program -- it is a valuab...

Perhaps the policies & understandadings are diferent between the different channels. The key words you wrote was "call in to upgrade". If thats the policy telesales runs off, great. I was simply saying how this is dealt with in stores. I have never heard of the 4 months early upgrade. I'm not trying to be a smartass, just saying what is done in stores.
No problem, I had a feeling that the policies were different. Actually, customer care will routinely change the upgrade dates on accounts to within 4 months if you request it. And, to customers, these policies are all applied on a case-by-case basis. 😁
Port to Cingular.
This cancels your plan w/ Verizon and you pay the penalty.
Come back 2 days later claiming you get no service from Cingular in your house when you got great service with Verizon.
Go to Verizon. Explain situation that Cingular sucked and you want to come back and sign up for a new plan. Ask them to waive the termination fee since you came back and signed up again.
Port back to Verizon. Return all Cingular stuff. (Has to be done within 3 days of purchase)
I can verify this works since I've done it. Not intentionally, but it was totally true. We tried to switch to Cingular, but the service was horrible so we went back to Verizon for a new 2 year plan and ended up with bra...
