Hi Everyone,

If anyone could reply to my problem I would really appreciate it...

I own(ed) a Motorola T720 through Verizon. Several months ago I was talking on the phone while washing my hands at a public restaurant and all of a sudden the phone died. Apparently I did not dry my hands enough. But this just goes to show you how sensitive this phone is to water. I then went to my local VZW store and they told me that it was ruined by water and that I would have to pay the full retail price to get another. I then asked my elderly mother to go to the store to see what happens. They then gave her a brand new phone.

Anyways, to get to my point... Tonight (for the first time in the several years of having a cell phone) I lost my pho...

Also, is there any possibility of fixing this phone?

I know last time it broke from water it was the battery area that had the problem.

This time the battery area appears to be fine but the screen is what's having problems.

Right now what I'm thinking about doing is buying a cheap $30 phone from Verizon and use that until the V710 comes out. Please everyone! I need your suggestions!

Martha my dear:

End of June!! Find a CHEAP Verizon phone ANYWHERE- Ebay, a friend, one of your MIS people, and ask if you can borrow it for a month. You inclination is correct. Don't throw
good money away. BEG- BORROW - Steal, nah
Do you have a friend at Radio Shack who can feel your pain? Even Verizon may have a loaner.
Here's the ticket. Go to your local OFFICIAL Verizon store. Ask to speak with the manager. Your a loyal customer, your waiting for the V710, and you've had a streak of BAD luck. If he won't help, I'll talk to my store manager for you. We're friendly, and I'll see if I can get you something. lemme know how it works out.
You'll have to go to howard forms to PM me.

Hi Editor,

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate you being so willing to help, that's what's great about this forum.

Okay - well, I really don't have a choice so I am going to have to go to Verizon and talk with them. Is loaning phones something that they are able to do? Is there anyway I could con them into giving me a new T720/730 saying that the phone dying was a problem with Motorola's faulty T720?

Once again, thank you. I will speak with them. I have been with Verizon for several years now and have never had a complaint.

I will keep you posted.

Thank you!

Get it to a vzw store as soon as possible. I am tech for vzw and have seen alot of liquid damaged phones. Last time u probably got lucky, nobody noted the account and cleaned the phone up enough so it didn't look damaged. If the display id going funky id may just be a ribbon cable problem.
If your phone is liquid damaged, remove the battery, get it to a vzw store for cleaning.
If it dries it will corrode

Thank you phone tech.

Basically, the whole battery part appears to be untouched. It looks the same. The display was going funky but now that the whole phone is just dead. Still, any chance of repairing?

Thank you!

possiably, if it was working before there may just be a short. No prommices though it may just be dead. Dont try to say it is a phone defect that will just tick the tech off when they find the damage, just be honest and they will doo thier best to fix it. Sorry no loaners.

Okay - I'll be honest. Maybe I'll slip them a few $20's. But seriously, thank you for the advice.

One more question.. How safe do you think it is to bid on a Verizon T720 on ebay? I see some for $0.99 that say mint condition. Should I be worrying about something?

You're thking a risk there but at least you would be sort of backed by ebay. Your safest option would be to find one localy so you could see it works.

I guess I got lucky when VZW gave me a new phone after my dumbass friend threw me in the pool. I guess the tech person saw how pissed I was when I went there the next morning and didn't want to add to the fire.

Your best bet would to do what people have been suggesting here and buy a cheap phone and wait.

I had the same issue with my son, 'cept he tried to flush his down the toilet.

I went to my company forum and asked if anyone had an old VZQ phone I could have for him, I'd pay the shipping. Cripe, I had about 4 offers in one day. So it worked out well, got him an old Startac and it works like a champ. Maybe you can aske around at work or in another group? There is always someone with an old phone they don't know what to do with. Heck, if the A790 was out, I'd give you my phone. Really. Good luck!

OK, this isn't going to help your immedate problem, but it seems that your phones tend to frequent the water hole. 😕 If that ever happens again get all power off of the electronics ASAP! (remove charger, remove battery, and pray that there is no internal memory battery) Then let it completely dry out on the inside before applying power again. This may take a while if the case isn't open (maybe 24 hours or so) You may just save the phone.

Electronic devices don't mind getting wet, they just don't like being wet when power is applied. Where I work we dunk circuit boards under hot acidic water for extended periods of time to clean off the solder flux. It's fine as long as they are dried really well before power is applied. Since your phone...

Go to ebay and buy a v120e or v120c for about 25 or 30 bucks, and live with that for a month.
